I'll be there. Did anyone try to attend the Sears Point A.M.A. race I didn't see
any GTS's except mine.

Re: batteries, dead and otherwise

Hmm, I guess being in a business school, anytime interest rates come
up it gets mentally tagged to me.sorry Jay, the comment was from Gil
Hillman actually. My view on it? Be careful about assuming a 15% return
for the next 5 years.

As to the battery issue, I find that when I lived in colder climates,
batteries tended to fail, in the winter, with a predictable decay in
performance prior to failure. In other words, you had "warning" and knew
when the time was coming. In the desert, most of my battery failures (all
except the GTS battery as I recall) have been catastrophic. They just
quit. Usually, in the heat, and especially in a vibrating vehicle like a
motorcycle (OK, more my HD than my GTS), the battery just gets a short and
stops suddenly.

Having a spare on the shelf is fine for the "known in advance" failures,
but will not help out on the road.

I'm still happy with the Champion replacement, and I'm still amazed at how
well the OEM batteries have done for most of us. Part of it is the
batteries, part of it has to be the charging system, which must be very
well regulated.

Honda X Wing

2000-05-08 Thread Michael Esfeld

By now I'd assume many of us who own the GTS have at least heard about the
new Honda X Wing, the purported successor to the Honda ST1100. Check out the
link, with particular focus on the front end of this bike. Gee, looks
vaguely familiar doesn't it? Now read the last paragraph of the review. Just
confirms once again we're a bit ahead of the curve...

Phil's certainly right, don't bet on 15% interest for the next 5 years,
though that hasn't been unusual for the past 5 years. Actually I picked the
15% to make the $70 work out. But I still can't see buying a battery, even
at a great price, to put it on the shelf for years. Who knows what battery
you'll want in 5 years? ( And even at 8%, the $35 turns into $52).

Here is an original message with Fred's reply. Thanks Fred.

The three for the brakes and the one for the clutch are the same.
SB8125L is
what's printed on the ziplock that mine came in. I think the L at the

for the longer nipple option.
