Previously, a list of sponsored attendees has been forwarded to the

booked individually.

It does not make much difference if this practice continues, or if rooms
are booked individually.

That will not be known with any certainty for some time (as there has
not yet been a call for sponsorship applications yet), but last year
around 30 people had sponsored accommodation, in mostly double rooms -
single are generally the exception.

Sounds good - though do we really want to do workshops in non english?

It might be helpful for locals, but I suppose that being a software

I guess that basically means writing up a nice letter/certificate and

That's what has been done at GNOME.Asia in the past.

I have done some introductions to git and GNOME inspired Workflows,

If we want to go down to two core days, we'll probably have to
radically rethink the schedule. Possibilities might involve cutting
the lightning talks, and/or cutting the length of the talks. It seems
like a good idea to talk about this early on.

I have also been on the papers committee for the last couple of years.
Given the general quality and freshness of talk proposals received, I
can see little problem with dropping to only 2 core days. Reducing the
length of time allocated to each talk would be my preference, if it is
desirable to keep the same number of talks on the schedule.

OK, but I hope that there will be enough room in the car, once we have

2. When do we go? I am fine at any point during the day personally since I
have flexible office hours.

Would personally prefer around 14:30 if I'm to join.

Works well for me. Is there parking near the Snabbgross place? Do I have
to worry about toll roads on the way (and with a foreign number plate)?

Shall we meet at the car? I am parked in the parking garage in
Olskroken.

3. Where do we drop it all off?

Pelagicore have said its ok that we store it in their office along
with the other things that they kindly store for us now (we can at
least store things that does not need cooling there).

There is quite a bit of food on the list that will need chilling. Can we
drop everything off in one place, where there is a fridge, so we do not
have to do two trips? Christopher, you mentioned you have some living
room space, but do you also have some fridge space?

use to shop there.

Thanks Fabiana and Skyman! The car and I are now in Gothenburg, so I can

great to have him along as both a helping hand and a knowledgeable
local. The forecast that Oliver linked to still looks good for Friday,
but I guess that we should do a final check on Thursday afternoon.

The shopping list on the etherpad looks good, and we can always modify
it slightly if some things are not available. Some soft drinks and
juices would be good, too. I added some rubbish (garbage) bags to the
list.

We can store the stuff here, but we need to come with with a plan for
transporting things to Slottskogen. Someone with a car will probably need
to leave Folkets Hus a little earlier to wrangle that.

I am happy to leave a bit early on Friday to pick up the picnic things.
We brought a (small) coolbox with us, and even a gas stove, which might
come in handy.

Kat and I will be driving to GUADEC (woohoo, road trip!), so if another

[guadec-list] BoF and hackfest room availability

Hi

The venue page of the GUADEC 2014 wiki lists two large rooms for talks:

https://wiki.gnome.org/GUADEC/2014/Venue

Is there any information about rooms for the hackfest/BoF days after
(and possibly before) the conference?

Names of rooms, availability and approximate room capacity would be
useful to add to the BoF planning page.

[guadec-list] Visa invitation letters

2014-06-10 Thread David King

Hi

The travel committee has sent out most sponsorship acceptances now, and
some people have replied mentioning that they need to apply for visas,
and would need invitation letters. There is a blank space for "visa
applications" on the GUADEC wiki page:

https://wiki.gnome.org/GUADEC/2014/Team

Who has the responsibility of sending invitation letters?

It would be good to fill in the blank space on the wiki page, so that I
can direct people to the right place.

If there is space for both, that seems perfect.

Some really beautiful silent movies have become public domain such as

Public domain is fine too. However, I'm a bit surprised that the linked

more, David? Thanks!

Night of the Living Dead is a bit special, as the original theatrical
release was never under copyright in the US:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Living_Dead#Copyright_status

House on Haunted Hill was published before 1964 and did not have its
copyright renewed, so the old term of 28 years from publishing of the
work would have applied:

https://archive.org/post/422355/easy-copyright-question-for-house-on-haunted-hill

It is important to find the original theatrical print, which I linked
to, which has orchestral theme music without lyrics, as the version with
lyrics had its copyright renewed and so is not in the public domain.

D.O.A. is in a similar situation regarding not renewing the copyright
(or rather, renewing it too late and the copyright office finding the
renewal invalid):

http://chart.copyrightdata.com/ch17.html

It is easier to search for works published in the US before 1923, as
those are all in the public domain, but there are many works (such as
those above) that are outside of the usual life-plus-70 years term.

The list was handpicked by our film guru Marcel and only contains CC movies
that we can show without paying licensing fees:

Is there a reason to restrict the list to CC-licensed films? There are
many excellent films in the public domain at archive.org:

http://archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3Afeature_films&sort=-%2Fadditional%2Fitem%2Fdownloads

On that basis, my three choices would be:

1. Night of the Living Dead
  http://archive.org/details/night_of_the_living_dead

2. D.O.A.
  http://archive.org/details/doa_1949
3. House on Haunted Hill
  http://archive.org/details/House_On_Haunted_Hill.avi

As these are works by foreign nationals, the “rule of the shorter term”
applies, so they are also in the public domain in the Czech Republic.
Section 107, paragraph 4 of the Copyright Act says: “Copyright in the
works of foreign nationals shall not subsist for longer than

copyright in the country of origin of the work.”:

Hello

At the bottom of this email is the message that I received after

Can it be updated to not refer to submitting new talk proposals (as
