I notice that 'staging' was not built on Hydra before it was merged, or
at least not more than a couple of days before.  Now that Hydra is
finally building it, many problems are becoming evident, especially on
armhf-linux.

Have we abandoned the practice of building out experimental branches on
Hydra before merging them?  Does Berlin now have a significantly better
interface that would allow us to spot problems like the ones that Hydra
is now (belatedly) bringing to light?  Was Berlin able to build out
'staging' on armhf-linux before this merge?

I’m happy to report that I’ve finally merged ‘staging’!  The branch
brings lots of updates, notably GNOME 2.28 (was 2.24).

Up-to-date substitutes are available from .

Since it's easy to roll back both commands now, I'd say there's often
little reason not to try it out whenever you can - unless you're
concerned about state outside the store getting messed up.

For example, if you use GnuCash, which stores data outside the store,
you might be concerned about backwards incompatibilities upgrading from
one version to the next, even though Guix provides a good roll-back
story.

I merged the staging branch into the master branch as
2018eea07bb00663d2f0cec9d9085d51afa4513b and started a new evaluation.
Most of the substitutes should already be available.

Some notable changes are updates to mesa, xorg-server, gtk+, and tzdata.
