Thanks to all for help! I think I'll take your advice and make an outer garment rather than cloak - I'm thinking of a wool houppelande - as a middle class woman I think I should make regular sleeves, not these huge ones one can see in for ex. Tres riches heures de duc de Berry. I'll bind the edges with fur, but I think entire full lining would be way too expensive for me (not to talk about the fact that I'll look like being pregnant) - do you think it's OK to make a houppelande without fur lining?
