Hi, All - I looked, I saw, I giggled. It didn't frighten me but my computer crashed! Hey, does anyone think they might really be breeding faux fur and what does the fur bearer look like? Te he. [h-cost] EUREKA!!!
Hi, All- Third time's charmed it's been said and this is the third time I've sent this message. Thanks to all, especially Andrea, Dawn, De, Fran and Sharon and any whom I've missed for your help and good advice. I got IT! Last nite (that would have been 8-26-7). I'd looked up Calgary Stampede but couldn't get through the links on this crazy, slow dial-up (which actually turned out to be the fault of a bad part up the telepole across the hwy.) Looked Bandera Stompede, which apparently no longer exists, and then got a brilliant! Looked up 'western cocktail dresses' - got Asian and Indo references and also som American western cocktail duds. There IT was. Black, sheer short skirt, one shoulder, one short sleeve, tight bodiced dress. I'll give her a slave bracelet and maybe add some gold fringe to 'trash' it a bit. You are wonderful. I needed to move on to renderings and just couldn't budge until this was right. Floozy and her POSILQ are outrageous and blatant and must look it. And Dawn, this is a beer and bible area. I think I could only offend others if I hung a big gold cross around her neck. Thank you, thank you. [h-cost] Looking for sources, etc.
Hi, all.. No answers to my request for ideas, impressions, images on modern cowtown floozies on Saturday nite - I know its not an historic thing and I also know some of you do stage productions; my impression is that most do academic stage work, which I did for 27 years. For the last 7 years it has been community theatre in Texas. I really would appreciate help. This character just won't come for Saturday night. You may contact me offline if you like at the above eaddress. Second request: does anyone use the Costume Bible ? Those of you who know this software, what are your impressions? Please? [h-cost] Looking for images and/or suggestions
Hi all! Later this year I expect to costume a modern play (present time) featuring cowboys and others. The characters are: a real cowboy a very youthful wannabe cowboy a dude ranch cowboy an English professor disguised as a cowboy a small town barfly a TV cameraman and, a woman barkeep a college student waitress (female) a woman television documentary producer a modern camp following floozie Setting is a small dried up western town. The costume plots are done, all pieces and colors set, except for a Saturday night at the bar for the floozie. I thought it would be fun to have your ideas and information before doing the renderings. I seldom do a modern piece and you gave me great help the last time you were consulted, that I wanted to invite you to try this. Thank you. [h-cost] Expedited passports (OT)
This is OT. Not long ago some had information about expedited passports, their costs and time to get one. Could you please send that info to me at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've been costuming for over thirty years and can't afford to 'hang up my scissors' or do anything else. But my youngest son, whose wife is a disabled vet, is about to lose their home. He needs to take a security position in the 'hot zone' after leaving the military last year. He served five assignments in that are and has had trouble finding employment that will keep his home together. They have two very young daughters 7 and 4. Sorry to beg but I want to help anyway I can. [h-cost] Beauty and the Beast
Hi all, Earlier this month someone mentioned having just put their production of Beauty and the Beast away. Are those costumes available to borrow or rent to a qualified theater? We are over twenty years old, own our plant, well covered with insurance to protect imports and are about to mount this production. See our website at HCCT.org. We are Hill Country Community Theatre. [h-cost] Thanks so much!
Thanks to all of you who so kindly gave me source references for modern costume. It is just odd that I never had a show with these demands before and under the present conditions where I am. There is no real department store near and this theatre is in a very wealthy community; however, nearly every one goes casual. My characters are four women in federal prison for 'pink collar' crime who have a lot of money stashed outside from their endeavors. They own the warden, dress as they please, have the hair dresser in, and order out from gourmet restruants. My plan is dress them by personality. To me that dictates a range of looks. Again, thanks a bunch. [h-cost] Reference please
After costuming college and university productions for over 25 years and community theatre(small stage) productions for seven years, I have been asked to costume in modern (today) dress for high end professional women in a comedy. Is there a list that would be helpful; any suggestions of mags, books, etc? Any help would be appreciated. [h-cost] Catherine's waist measure
Thanks for the tips on where to find standard sizing. I can't afford it either. I'll just keep on as I have been. An idea on the so tiny waistline. I don't think it was really so tiny for its time. Catherine was 14 years Elizabeth Tudor's senior. Elizabeth grew to be 4'10 and weigh approximately 85 lbs. She was not considered undersized. Assuming that Catherine might not have been much larger, a thirteen inch waist would not have been much more than nicely neat and not the extreme it is today. The armor of French knights of mid -14th cent. would have been a squeeze for Elizabeth. [h-cost] Basic Patterns forBig Men
Thanks to those who responded with suggestions. I apologize for not making my needs clear. I can draft pajamas for elephants if need be. I'm just tired of having to start from scratch on these guys each time they are cast for anything that requires dress prior to 1850. I always re-measure an actor for several reasons. In commercial patterns, usually based on the measures of the US Bureau of standards, Weights and Measures, I'm not finding sizes above 48. XL,XXL,XXXL are not consistent over brands. In order to draft Basic Patterns in sizes 50,52,54,56,58, and 60 current size charts are wanted. Failing that commercial patterns are a substitute for my own but I can't find them, nor can I find the right address to get into Weights and Measures to download the charts. When I make a custom fit for an actor my fit muslin usually ends up as garment lining ( we are low budget productions here) and besides these are not standardized; they are custom. [h-cost] NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
Hi all, May I introduce myself. My name is Audrey Chase. My experience is in small stage productions in colleges and universities, and for the last six years in community theatre. Also, I've done Parks and Recreation children's theatre in the past and some Miss Drill Team USA competition work. My first digest just came and I tend to lurk more then participate but the other list to which I belong covers an ever changing variety of subject matter. Nice to met you today and it is so good to be here. Audy.
