[h-cost] 30" linen?

2012-05-16 Thread llwa...@juno.com
Does anyone knew of a place that sells 30" wide linen? The shift pattern I was
going to try out was designed for narrower fabric, and the sewing instructions
use the selvages so cutting down a wider piece won't quite work.

(It's no big deal, cotton is just as appropriate and I can find 30" cotton
muslin everywhere. I just like the feel of linen, and since I'm going through
menopause I thought linen might be cooler.)

[h-cost] checking on a merchant

2013-02-02 Thread llwa...@juno.com
I'm getting ready for the Costume Con historical masquerade, and it looks like
a shoe style from Fugawee (http://www.fugawee.com/index.htm) will be very close
to what I need. However, I don't know anyone locally who's dealt with them.
What are their shoes like? Do sizes run small/large, or pretty close to
standard commercial sizes? (The shoes I'm looking at are straight-last, if it
matters.) Any problems with orders?

Sorry about that -- I'm leaning toward the Connie. The heel style on the Cheri
is a closer match, but I'd have to get it redyed leather-brown since it doesn't
come in natural. (And it's a left/right shoe; straight last is more
appropriate for this outfit.)

[h-cost] pattern questions

2014-11-02 Thread llwa...@juno.com
I have two questions about the Folkwear "Edwardian Underthings" pattern for
anyone who's used it: 1) How accurate would it be for the World War I era? 2) I
know they say it goes to 3XL, but given Folkwear's habit of sizing things small
I'm not counting on the pattern being usable straight out of the package -- how
easy to resize is it? Thanks. Leah
