Re: [h-cost] Dressing a Victorian Lady
This actully happened o me early in my heckered career in the SCA. First of all... I have NEVER been of a size that inspire men to toss me around. So i am at my first dance at coronaion and we are dancing the official bransle (also known in the ommon language as Toss the Duchess my dance parttner, a strapping black bearded man of limitless humor , is talking me through it as i dance sote unseen .[oh yes i am wearing full elizabeathan.] James directed me to turn , face him and bend my knees. By the time i realized what caame next ( while he dug his fingerd into the bottom of my stays) and was propelled skyward , shrieking,it was al over but the laughter. The stays held thouh an nevr shifted, my virtue intact. -Original Message- Date: Wednesday, July 20, 2011 9:53:24 pm To: Historical Costume h-cost...@indra.com From: Ann Catelli elvestoor...@yahoo.com Subject: Re: [h-cost] Dressing a Victorian Lady I saw the video--very funny presentation! [h-cost] Dressing a Victorian Lady
Hi folks, I saw this on the Wall Street Journal site, of all places. It's an article with a slideshow and an amusing video, about a lady who writes historical romances--and wanted to get her steamy scenes right. :) http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304911104576443871615544338.html Fun stuff. I've seen a similar show for how Queen Elizabeth I would have been dressed by her ladies. Re: [h-cost] Dressing a Victorian Lady
Hey! If you watch the video, that's my friend Kelly Cochran-Davis who made the outfit and is demonstrating to Ms Gist how to wear it! Very cool! Kelly is an excellent costumier. Heh. Did that for a history class, going the other way round. Since it was a mixed group, I wore leotards underneath! Made it easier to slip on jeans t-shirt and sit through the rest of the class. It's fun to watch the uninitiated as you discuss all the underpinnings-- even the dress is unfamiliar to them. == Marjorie Wilser =:=:=:Three Toad Press:=:=:= Learn to laugh at yourself and you will never lack for amusement. --MW http://3toad.blogspot.com/ On Jul 20, 2011, at 4:09 AM, Sharon Henderson wrote: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304911104576443871615544338.html ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
