I get mine from Fire Mountain Gems--
http://www.firemountaingems.com/search.asp?skw=closed+jump

I like the 7 or 8mm ones in 20 gauge, but have used ones as small as 5mm 23
gauge with no problems. They're surprisingly strong!

What do you guys use for lacing rings? I just found this vendor:

It depends. For large meant to be seen rings I use 13mm brass rings
from the curtain section of Spotlight/Harvey furnishing etc. Anywhere
you can buy everything to make a curtain. They come in several sizes
and treatments:
http://www.charlesrowley.co.uk/curtain-hooks-rings.html
They are about 15c each NZ the size that I get.

If I have a need for smaller rings I buy solid brass rig rings from a
fishing tackle shop.
They wind up 50cNZ each here.
http://www.tackleshop.co.uk/ProductDetails/mcs/ProductID/634/GroupID/14/CategoryID/105/v/
These are stainless steel but you can get them in brass, I just have a
hard enough time finding them online at all;) Go to a tackle shop and
ask for solid brass rig rings, a goos storeperson will know what you
are after.

I have used the eyes of hooks and eyes in the past too. It really
depends on how big the ring needs to be.

Michaela
(about to use some of said large rings for my upcoming SCA garb project.)

my sewing machine.

I sell these rings. They are 20 for $1.00 and you can buy as many or as
few as you want.

Here is the link:

http://www.renaissancefabrics.net/products.php?int_era_id=5&start_count_url=36

or you can go to my homepage at

http://www.renaissancefabrics.net/index.php

and do a search for "lacing rings". They are about 3/8" in diameter and
very sturdy!

Hope that helps!

Yep, they are reasonably pricey if you buy them that way though. I was
gifted some by the Lochac Queen a few years ago (SCA Kingdom, Aussie and
NZ.) They were quite rough inside and I have to replace lacing string fairly
frequently.

I bought some from a fishing shop here in Auckland and they are smoothly
finished on the inside.

When you ask at a fishing supply shop ask for solid brass rings. Or brass
rig rings. They some in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Do a google image search for rig rings. You'll find a wide range of places
you can by them online. But it may be easier to ask your local tackle store
to order some in.

http://www.tackleshop.co.uk/ProductDetails/mcs/ProductID/634/GroupID/14/CategoryID/105/v/
These are stainless steel, but basically what you are looking for. I'm
trying to see if there are more on the site.

http://www.fishsa.com/sinkswiv.php
Just some info at the bottom about what they look like and used for.

I love them, and have a goodly number on garb;) I am about to buy some more
(I have to order them) in 3.5mm size and if I buy in bulk I get them for 30c
a piece rtaher than 50c/piece. Brass curtain rings here at the smallest size
(which are too big for several projects) are at least half that price
anyway.

At $20.00 a bag (1000 rings), I'd say that's a pretty good price. Not
to mention that its probably a lifetime supply. I've given some away
and still have a bunch. They're not 1/4" though, more like 1/2".

Calico Corners and other similar custom or make your own fancy curtain
shops have them, although usually in squashed cardboard boxes in a
drawer somewhere known only to staff, so you have to ask for them.

Does anyone know the merchant who sold me a supply of small (less than 1/4

but sturdy brass rings (no visible seam) that I purchased at an SCA event
