Re: [h-cost] New York Garment District
Thank you for the suggestion. I would very much like to see this exhibit, but unfortunately my trip isn't until March. Is there a permanent exhibit on display on the Costume Institute? I can't seem to find any information one way or the other on the Met's website. One of Queen Victoria's gowns is on display, and two from Alexandra, Edward's wife. You should not miss it. It is in the costume institute, below the Egyptian Exhibit. I believe the show runs until February. Monica ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

Re: [h-cost] New York garment district
I have to second Elegant Fabrics. You don't need to go in knowing what you want. The fabric, and the prices, will entice you to buy. If I'm just looking for bargains, I go to NY Elite Fabrics at 554 8th Avenue. For trims, I have good luck with B&Q Trimmings, 210 W 38th St (though it may be called Shine Trim now). If you just want to drool, look at the ribbons at Mokuba (137 W 38th St). There is a sit down Thai restaurant at 318 W. 36th St (near 8th Ave) that serves up a tasty and quick lunch. Re: [h-cost] New York garment district
Oh good lord! Just two? M&J Trim is a great shop. They have a website, fyi. Nearby, there is a block or two with little fabric store crammed to the gills next to another little fabric store crammed to the gills, next to another one. All of them have slightly different fabric. And they make deals for cash. It is on the same street as Beckenstien's, http://www.citysearch.com/profile/7085136/new_york_ny/beckenstein_s_men_s_fabric_czar.html which has men's suiting and makes suits for the stars. I wish I would have had them measure me up and gotten one when I was there a few years ago. Henry W.
