[h-cost] Reminder: Lectures in L.A.
There are still some seats left for my lecture day in Los Angeles on Feb. 7. Location is Mount St. Mary's College. I'll be giving five lectures on women's fashions of the 14th and 15th centuries. Topics are the Gothic fitted dress, the Greenland gored gown, the sideless surcote, the V-necked gown, and women's heraldic dress. Pre-registration deadline has passed, but if you contact the event planner with your intentions, I believe she can save you a seat. Any remaining seats will be sold to people who show up at the door. Other details are here: http://www.historicalcloset.com/upcoming_events.html I hope I get to meet a few h-cost people there -- please be sure to introduce yourselves! --Robin ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

Do you have presentation slides etc? Can they be made available to those of us who are not able to attend (I live in Australia :) Sidney On Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 5:25 AM, Kimiko Small wrote: > > > > --- On Tue, 1/27/09, Robin Netherton wrote: > > > I hope I get to meet a few h-cost people there -- please be > > sure to introduce yourselves! > > > > --Robin > > > I will definitely be there. > > Kimiko > > ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

Can they be made available to those of us who are not able to attend (I live in Australia :) My slides are traditional 35mm film, no text, and not digitized. But in any case, (1) they're not much use without the lecture, and (2) many of them were taken under arrangements that allow me to show them in a classroom lecture but do not carry permission to publish or reproduce. To answer the other question everyone asks, there are no handouts to speak of. Three of the lectures have single-sheet handouts with some art on it, but no discussion, and they're not of much use out of context. A version of one of my lectures (the Greenland dress) has been published in Medieval Clothing and Textiles, vol. 4. So if you're interested in that one particularly, you can get much of the material there. There are things in the lecture that aren't in the article, but there are things in the article that aren't in the lecture, too. Maybe someday enough groups in Australia will be able to work out a cost-effective tour there for me! --Robin ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
Re: [h-cost] Reminder: Lectures in L.A.
Thanks Robin, I suspected that may be the case, a good lecture always has added information not on the slide handouts. Not sure on the demand here in Oz, I know if I did a corset making class I can fill it, but period clothing of any era I am not sure on... maybe there is a need for a costume lecture tour, with workshops in all aspects of period clothing? I was so excited when I heard about this, and I was planning to be there, but I'm giving classes of my own at the Renaissance Symposium that weekend about 400 miles away, and there's just no way to do both. I have to hope that you'll be back some time in the future. Break a leg! I'll miss you both! Oh wow, now I'm even more excited about the Symposium http://rensymposium.com Margo and I spent so much time "together" without ever meeting. Yes, it's about time.
