Is spirit gum the same stuff that comes with fake eyelashes? The double-sided, translucent tape is available in the notion section of German department stores. They sell it to those who want to keep a deep neckline in place. It might work for mustaches as well. Re: [h-cost] Temporary facial hair ...few ideas...fish-y smelling glue
Back in the day when I wore fake eyelashes ,i remember them using surgical glue, smelled a little fishy was white and opaque. Spirit gum is usually amber colored, like tree sap. One or two would do a whole beard and they come in different colors and textures. I don't know what kind of hair they are made from. Anyway, hair seems to be easy to find these days. I remember from school a Q D beard session using bought hair and spirit gum. He gummed one section at a timesections that naturally occur in a beard, like the left side of the mustache and the right side, the chin and then the jaw, and then the sideburns that kind if thing. After that one gummed section got tacky, he took the hair and spread it out in his hand to a thin layer holding it between his thumb and the side of his hand with ends sticking up about an inch above his thumb and hand . This was pushed into the gum with the hair in the direction it should lay. For instance, for say the left mustache, you come in from the left with the hair pointing in the direction it would naturally lay and sorta push the hair up into the gum. You will need several layers so start at the bottom of the section and work up. Always do a beard longer than you want the finished one so you can trim it into shape after it's stuck on. Also, this was not a do it yourself operation. You always get better results if someone does the beard for someone else...not doing one on yourself. But of course if you're careful... and take your time It does take a while to complete a full beard. **Dell Laptops: Huge Savings on Popular Laptops – Deals starting at $399(http://pr.atwola.com/promoclk/100126575x1222883570x1201497211/aol?redir=http:%2F%2Faltfarm.mediaplex.com%2Fad%2Fck%2F12309%2D81939%2D1629%2D0) ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

Re: [h-cost] Temporary facial hair
If you can't find anything else, and want hair (rather than eyeliner) get a hank of straight crepe hair (used for dolls) at the craft store. If it's braided, you'll have a kinky beard/'stache unless you unbraid it, wet it in warm water, then hang it to dry with one end weighted. Paint on the adhesive, let it get tacky, then press the hair into it. When the adhesive is dry, trim the hair to the shape you want. It's only good for one use that way, but pretty quick. As to your other question, spirit gum (the real thing) is latex free, but some people are sensitive to it (it's basically pine sap in an alcohol solution). You will need alcohol to remove it. Test first on your arm if at all possible (a rash on your face is not what you want). Hypoallergenic eyelash or surgical adhesive is an option (ask at the drugstore, and make sure you know how to remove it). Make sure that part of your face is very clean before applying any adhesive, as skin oils will cause the adhesive (either kind) to fail.
