In lieu of Fray Check, watered down glue [Sobo glue is a white glue we
have here that doesn't dry clean or wash out] will do. But both these

can leave a dark mark on silk [or even acetate] taffeta.

2005-11-10 Thread Bjarne og Leif Drews

Hi,
Thanks for your help. I dont want to make a fringe on the edge of the
scallopes, and a lady from the gustavians, told me she had used a spray glue
on the backside of the silk and then a hairspray on the edge, and it worked
very well.
Ill try this out, also because this is things i can get here, and i dont
want to waite for a month for an order overseas.

Thanks anyway...

[h-cost] scalloped sleave ruffles

2005-11-09 Thread Bjarne og Leif Drews

Hi again,
Forgive that i have another question. I want to make the sleave ruffles of
the yellow dress with scalloped edges. I dont have pinking tools, and i just
want to cut it with ordinary scissors.
How could i make the edge of this, so it wont fray? Should i make buttonhole
stitches? I want to add small bouquets of chenille flowers here and there!
Could i turn the edge, about 1-2 mm. and perhaps cut it each top? I dont
want to make tiny ones, but scallopes about 5 cm. wide

What little I know of these styles, they did use raw edges on the
scallops right? You don't have a set of pinking shears? You can also
apply a very light coat of fray check with a micro brush. I will try
to find a link of all these things is you don't have them over there.

Dear Saragrace,
Perhaps this would be a good idea. Ill try to ask in my shops if they have
this stuff over here.
I am most conserned because i want to apply (embroider on) some chenille
flowers on the edge, and i am afraid if they will run out

But it would be the best solution to do, for authentic look!

If I don't want to use my pinking tool, I usually cut my scalloped
ruffles with pinking scissors, - gives a period look. Sometimes I
use fraycheck - depends on the fabric.

Hi Bjarne,
It seems to me that it's nearly impossible to make a narrow hem on a
5cm scallop. When scallops were popular fifty years ago, scallops were
hemmed by laying a hem band together with the fabric, cutting the
scallops, sewing them together on the scalloped edge with a narrow seam
allowance, turn and hem the hem band to the reverse of the fashion
fabric. hope this helps, Kitty
