Re: [h-cost] Peacock Wedding Dress ....yes there are white peacocks
In Mansfield ,Oh. they have a large Mansion, that has become a public museum. Around the massive acerage they have a flock of pure ,white peacocks. They are very beautiful and their feathers are impressive. Many feathers are dyed or bleached. Craft stores have dyed feathers by the bag, in many bright, un-natural colors. And we know we can get ostrich feathers in un-natural colors. Re: [h-cost] Peacock Wedding Dress
Now that I've looked at the albino peacocks, I definitely think my feathers were bleached. The albinos are pure white and the bleached feathers had a bit of color still on them. Also I saw a web page where they sold bleached peacock, as well as overdyed. The dyed are not bleached first, however the red ones are quite striking. I had some of those, too. I don't know if it's in Philadelphia any more, but I got mine at the S.A. Feather Company. It was also a great source for ostrich plumes of various colors and sizes. I used those more then anything for historic things. Sometimes they would have the end of a dye lot that were fairly cheap. They did custom dyeing, although of course they can be dyed at home, too. -Carol On Apr 14, 2009, at 12:20 AM, otsisto wrote: What gave you the impression they were bleached? Probably hard to match because the colors aren't really pigments for the most part, but some very fancy light interference patterns. In a message dated 4/13/2009 5:43:43 PM Eastern Daylight Time, albert...@aol.com writes: The skirt is awesome, but I really hate the print bodice Well, I'm kind of lukewarm about it, too. But as someone who has worked with peacock feathers on a MUCH smaller scale, I must say, they aren't as easy to match as you might think. The colors are really muted, and most "peacock" prints I've seen have much more vibrant colors that don't really coordinate, and the same goes for choosing one of the solid colors--so-called peacock blue, for instance, is much brighter than the colors in the real feathers (technically, actually, not feathers, but bracts). So maybe that choice wasn't so bad, after all. Ann Wass **Access 350+ FREE radio stations anytime from anywhere on the web. Get the Radio Toolbar!
