Re: [Haifux] Though I walk through the valley of empty queue, I will fear no lack of talks: for thou art with me
Yes, I've forgot to mention that attendees should have at least some knowledge of Python. I don't think doing lecture in "Python for beginners" will do any benefit with regards to my lectures. If people never programmed Python, one beginners' lecture will not be enough to make them ready for advanced Python. And if they did some Python programming it will be enough for my lectures. Hi all, I can give a lecture on "Topics in advanced Python". It may be split into two lectures, depending on how fast it will go. Here is the summary: * (advanced) decorators * descriptors * multiple inheritance * the magic of "type" * metaclasses * slots vs dictionaries * generators in depth * async programming Is there any interest? Re: [Haifux] X terminal
Just a few notes about NX - its a remote desktop software for Linux. They have a client for mostly all platforms (including Windows of course) and server software that consists of free and non-free part. freenx project aims to replace that non-free part. There is also an alternative to freenx - neatx project sponsored by Google. NX is very network efficient - one can have 5 full KDE desktops with 1680x1050 resolution on 1500/500 kbit line. NX also supports mounting remote desktop media locally and redirecting remote sound to local (client) computer. Printer exposure is also supported 2010/8/10 Shahar Dag : > Hello > > Thanks for all the people who send me suggestions. > I will try to summarize: > > http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/en/, do not need installation. Re: [Haifux] Whole disk encryption, because it costs nothing?
I'm encrypting both of my servers "till the last track" - i.e. every LVM volume. Only /boot is left unencrypted. This way I do not need to care whether I've left something uncovered. Sure there is a performance penalty. But they run pretty smooth considering that they are under constant heavy load (developers + NX + C++ coding). For example, on 8GB RAM computer with QUAD Core 3.2Ghz Intel Core 2, I can compile Firefox in 7 minutes with make -j 10.
