Certainly if I could prove it worked well then my company would certainly have a good chance to use the edge. 95% of operational users are in a VDI environment accessed via thin clients in offices with laptops given to those who require remote access, these users normal have a company mobile as well. We could easy replace three devices with one. I know having spent a good few hours working it out that if you can afford to buy a handset it is a hell of a lot cheaper to do so out right. My wife has an iPhone and when we brought it I calculated buying the handset outright and choosing a cheap pay as you go worked out nearly £400 cheaper over the length of the nearest tariff which included it free/cheap handset. Of course not everyone can afford to do this but there are loans cheaper then mobile tariffs and I'm amazed how many people have expensive handsets, including kids in the playground at my children's primary school. However I do think Ubuntu edge will struggle without a carrier backing it in this way. There is also a problem trying to do alike for like comparison, I understand it the edge is more then a mobile phone. I for one have been waiting years to be able to dock my mobile device onto a keyboard and screen, this would work perfectly in our environment at work which is now 90%VDI. Phone+laptop+desktop. That's a very big claim, and not one I think can be supported, given the widely varied use cases. Tim B. I get a lot of use out of it. I personally hoped the Edge was going to be my next phone. It has the design, spec and software I want. Shame it didn't hit the target. > Crowdsourcing is this a great way of market testing or letting the mad run > the madhouse?! > I have backed numerous crowdfunding campaigns. These range from a 3D printer to charities, clothing, books, films, and various hardware projects. I find them an exciting way to back a project. A by-product of all crowdfunding campaigns (not just the Edge) is to test the market. If you can't get funding for your project then perhaps there's not enough market for it, or maybe you mismanaged the project, or perhaps there's some other reason. Many have speculated on why the Edge failed to get funding, but I don't think anyone has one single concrete answer. [Hampshire] Ubuntu Edge crowdfunding drive misses target
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-23793457 Is any mobile phone worth $625, $675, $695 or $725. Crowdsourcing is this a great way of market testing or letting the mad run the madhouse?! Anyways I thought I would ask as the wife cooks the Sunday roast cooks and the Raspberry Pi is out to play! Sorry if this was off topic!
