[Hampshire] Invitation | ORG Hampshire Meetup Tomorrow

2014-04-07 Thread alexandra combes
Hi Hants LUG

I am new on the list, moved to England recently and am currently
launching the Hamsphire chapter of Open Rights Group - a UK based
organisation defending digital rights and freedoms.

So far we are setting up a meetup group, with a first gathering this
Tuesday at O'Neill's Winchester featuring the President of the Open
Source Initiative Simon Phipps :

There is also a mailing list, to which you can subscribe here :

Looking forward to meet with you tomorrow and / or later on.

Kindest regards

I'm sorry but while it is an important aim I don't feel I can ask anyone
to sign up to a charter that includes the word multistakeholderism.

Ha ha ! Where did you find that one ? Joining the group does not mean
you become an ORG member - for this, you would actually have to pay :)
Let's say Open Rights Group has kindly accepted to support my project
to build a network of digital rights supporters in Hampshire.

It's in the charter that the Open Rights Group is asking prospective
euro candidates to sign. While it might have a very specific meaning
to people that talk about Internet governance to most non-technical
political candidates it's gonna look like a made up word and they'll
regard the whole charter as a joke.

You have to feed politicians with a very small spoon.

I see. Thanks for your comments - will forward to the Board.
