Besides Grub 2 completely failing with my mixture of SATA and PATA disks, I've
nothing but praise for Kubuntu 9.10. It runs like a charm on my machine,
drives and codecs not a problem, and the whole thing feels nicely polished.
Definitely the best release yet (and that's not always the case with a new
Kubuntu release).

I hit that issue too.

I also hit problems with the touchpad on an Acer laptop - freezing and jumping,
hopefully fixed by adding a proto= option to the psmouse module, at the expense
of edge scrolling.

Also it kernel panicked the first time I tried installing with Wubi and I had
to
reboot and try again.

On the plus side it ran a bajillion times faster than Windows Vista. I have
benchmarks to prove it and everything[1].

An issue I ran into with my wife's PC is that the openchrome video
driver doesn't work with kde (strangely it does with gnome) so I had
to switch to the vesa driver. Apparently using NoAccel in xorg.conf
works too [1].
