The machine in question is not connected to the internet: I really
want to avoid a long chase after dependencies.

I will try virtualbox, but it will have to wait a while. Other
things have intervened.

You really don't want to be messing with libc if you can avoid it. There
be dragons for the unwary.

That was from an rpm version; I have not found a Debian file for it.
>

Blender should be in the debian archives to install via apt, or if you
fancy trying the new hotness you can get it as a snap.

If you go the snap route:
- On debian, for snaps you'll need to install snapd from the archive.
- On Ubuntu you should have it already.

Once you have snapd installed, run `sudo snap install blender`, log out and
back in again and everything should be set.

I do not have the correct versions of libc.so.6 and libm.so.6 for
blender. An attempt to install a new libc resulted in further errors:
GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._pk_5ftransaction_5ferror.Code20:

MIME type not supported

That was from an rpm version; I have not found a Debian file for it.

That's the java version. It was never as well developed as the
original Moonlight Atelier. I had no problem installing and running
that, but I can not find any way to put an image on to a surface,
tiled or otherwise. Perhaps you know otherwise, but I suspect that
capability is not there. There appears to be no documentation,
which is in accord with the best traditions of Moonlight Atelier
and Real Programming.

I have acquired virtualbox. I will see if I can install SUSE 7.3 in
it from a CD.

Thanks to all for the advice and comments.

Maybe it might be easier to get a newer version from their website,
although they haven't done any updates for a while.

I found a tarball on their download page at
http://www.moonlight3d.eu/downloads.html

I downloaded the 64-bit tarball on my Ubuntu 18.04 system running
Unity. I unpacked the tarball and ran moonlite.sh in the download
folder and it worked first time..

Here's what it looks like. https://imgur.com/a/zBCfBmG

Maybe give that a try.

Cheers,
Al.

There are multiple Linux tools that can do that.
A popular one is "blender"

How would I do that? I have found moonlite.rpm on an old SUSE 7.3 disk, but
not at all to my surprise, can't install it:
GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._pk_5ftransaction_5ferror.Code20:

MIME type not supported

Attempting to run the executable file directly results in:
./moonlight: error while loading shared libraries: libXext.so.6: cannot open
shared object
file: No such file or directory

even with libXext.so.6 and libXext.so.6.4 in the same directory.

> Is that moonlight, as in the open source version of microsoft silverlight?

I don't know, but a quick web search for silverlight leads me to think it is
not. The original question was about the moonlight 3D drawing program
available from tucows and archive.org -

www.tucows.com/preview/52256/Moonlight-Atelier
archive.org/details/tucows_52256_Moonlight_Atelier

Good question. The capability I am looking for is to create a 3d object
and tile an image on to the surface thereof.

You could try installing an old 32bit version in a chroot shell, or a VM.
Is that moonlight, as in the open source version of microsoft silverlight?
It is not actively developed any more, so might be difficult to get going.
Do you really have to use moonlight?

Kind Regards

James

[Hampshire] libgtk-1.2.so.0

2018-05-11 Thread Peter Alefounder via Hampshire
I am trying to use an old program called moonlight. I get the message:
error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

I can't find libgtk-1.2.so.0 anywhere - is it still available? I would
need a 64 bit AMD version.
