Meetings in the past have been held in Basingstoke, Southampton
University, IBM Hursley, and a village hall (can't remember
exactly where), often because someone could get us in for free.
There is no reason that the location could not be paid for as the
society has a bank account with some money in and people don't
mind paying a few quid to cover the cost of a room.

Some meeting have been joint between us and other groups, so
doing the same again is also a valid option.

Originally a decent network connection with WiFi was essential so
people could download and do stuff, but some meeting have been
without network and also proved quite successful.

I've been busy of late but would be happy to go to more meetings
and give presentations, but as a former chairman of the LUG I
would caution that getting a free venue with network and a speaker
can be a challenge.

I live in Overton (part way between Basingstoke and Andover) and
we have nice village halls, but we'd have to pay for them to use
them...

Well yes, me too : "/enjoy getting out from my hole, taking in some sun

I wouldn't object at all to contributing a few quid, a hall in Overton
would be ideal for me ;-)

+1 for So Make It, seems like an ideal venue.

I only managed to get along to one HLUG meeting when it was meeting at
Soton Uni, before it seemed to stop meeting altogether. Would be keen to go
along to meetings if they start up again.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hilsea is in Hampshire (just!). How about a joint meeting instead of just an
invitation, even a warm one?

I keep trying to come back to a PLUG meet - but I guess I was hoping if a
more westerly location was found it might encourage different members out
of their own holes :)

I live in Farnborough; the venues you suggest are way away from my

Have we still got members working there - any chance of a repeat

I don't know what area would be neutral enough to tempt people out to
a meet up but I had two thoughts.

Firstly I know Smoothwall have an office in Segensworth, I don't know

Their location [1] is easily accessible from the M27 and close to
Swanwick train station.

Alternatively I was thinking about SoMakeIt, if you're not aware of
SoMakeIt is it a makerspace based in Shirley area of Southampton and
has quite a large area allowing for table top desk space and sofa's

It is less then a mile to Southampton Central train station and for

The only downside to SoMakeIt is they have a public opening Saturday's
so it would have to be a Sunday meet.

In return for using the space I would recommend everyone made a small
voluntary donation of £1 to assist covering the running cost of the
makerpsace.

Of course if anyone else has other suggestions for meeting locations
then please share.

Sorry I've written more then I intended but I'm looking forward to see
