I've seen some performance issues as well. I'll have more time next
week to investigate and to work on a better solution.

You are right, I'd just test it and the download of the tarball fluctuate
between 1 and 2 kB/s.

Just an FYI, I'm not sure how you host the downloads for haproxy, but for the 
past couple of days, they've been horridly slow.
