[HCDX] WWRB-Finally verified

2003-10-14 Thread Lennart Weirell
Received yesterday a verification for WWRB Morrison, TN – 12172 via rev.
Turner, the host for “the AV 1611-hour”, who replied my reception report
after 6 weeks with a nice personal letter, saying my report was the first
overseas report he had received (he had received some from Mexico and Canada
before). The letter ended with some passages from the Bible in Swedish!!
Enclosed with the letter was a big US stamp block. It seems like the only
way to get WWRB verified is to write to the different program makers. A
direct report to the station will not result as Dave Franz doesn’t seems to
like us DX-ers according to the WWRB web site, where he writes under QA:

“A hobby listener can be likened to a trophy hunter; they listen to a
station for a short period of time, send in to the station a reception
report, request a QSL card (proof of reception card,) and are rarely heard
from again, unless the station makes a radical change to its QSL card design
or hosts a reception report contest, offering station related paraphernalia
such as pennants.
The hobbyist is only interested in getting something nifty from his efforts
and pays little, if any, attention to the programming, other than the
writing of a brief transcript, required to prove reception. Also like a
trophy hunter’s guns, hobby listeners usually posses powerful receiving
equipment to pick up even the weakest signals, so shortwave stations often
attempt to pass hobbyist reception reports off as proof of world coverage
(Beware!)”

[HCDX] Nice domestic DX log from this saturday afternoon

2003-10-14 Thread aurel chiochiu
Hello to all of you !

I have been very buzzy burning CDs and going out with a friend in the downtown
Montreal areas, as well as with my parents so I didn`t have time to mention this log
that I made on the car-radio, the past saturday afternoon:

1320 CKEC, New Glasgow, NS OCT 11 1753 - playing I Shut The Sherif (But I`ll Better
Shut The Deputee) followed by man talk w/ ment. of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia followed
by ads, one of them for a Canadian cancer association and several IDs. Then back to
the oldies program. Very huge signal, way over both CJMR and WTAR. First time that it
is noted with a decent and really listenable signal and reception on the car-radio
wich omni-directionnal can`t null WTAR to make CJMR the only source of QRM like my old
Sanyo did and will have done. (Chiochiu-QC)

Bogdan Chiochiu on the road in Saint-Laurent and Dorval, Montreal, QC

Also a note for the FM DX`ers and enthousiasts, this Monday on the Thanks Giving Day
we went to Cornwall where we could get locals, semi-locals and tropo-scatter FM
on almost all the channels. The best catches are WIZN The Wizard from Vergennes, VT in
the Platsburg-Burlington Market and CBC Radio 1 on 107.5 from Kingston.
Locals were noted on 94.7, 96.3, 97.3, 102.9 and 104.5 and probably 1 or 2 other
frequencies I didn`t checked with attention. Then in the end of the morning, we drived
back to Montreal, into the south-eastern corner of the island, in the
Hochelaga-Maisonneuve quarter. There we walked outside a very, very little bit and we
eated something from McDonald in the car while listening to CFXM M105 from Grandby, a
nice semi-local that is completely blocked by CJLA Lachute here in Pierrefonds. They
played a lot of great songs, several of them from the 80`s. My favorite song wich they
played was Time (Clock of the Heart) by Boy George and Culture Club wich I burned on
my last CD. Another great 80`s song that I knew since a long time and that I founded
on the Internet was Automatic by the Pointer Sisters. A very great tune that until
yesturday I didn`t know wich artist performed it. Extremely great happy and rhythmic
80`s funky music with a sad atmosphere !

Well, that`s for now !
73 and good DX,
Bogdan Chiochiu
