[HCDX] Tough Lamp RF Noise

2004-01-17 Thread Patrick Martin
Hi:

My neighbor received two touch lamps for Christmas. My eastern beverage
runs near her house and I am getting some buzz noise from them. At
least it is not as bad as a dimmer though. I am on friendly terms with
the lady. Do any those plug-in line cord filters work on Touch lamps?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

73s,

Patrick

It was heard by a few locals in and around Gothenburg.
One of those, a friend of mine, described the signal like this:
I have had better signals from stations with electrical power problems in
the Bolivian jungle that I got from this transmission in my own home town.
According to Swedish information the organizers had problems with the
transmitter, which was a modified Icom 706.
The problems were related to a couple of 813 valves which didn't function
in some amplifier. With a working amplifier they had hoped to get 250 watts
of radiated power, with a lone Icom 706 they didn't get close to that.

RE: SV: [HCDX] MW DX Equip Advice

2004-01-17 Thread Joseph Strain
AVOID the Tecsun, it's a good radio for under $100.00 but (I have the
Grundig R 350 counterpart) it fails to be able to seperate stations and
their images..

My favorite LOCAL AM 740 Khz sports station is effectively neutralized at
DAWN by several unidentified Spanish Speaking stations that cannot be tuned
out while l my DX 398-ATS-909 effectively IGNORES the unwanted stations at
the same time

Sounds like the Icom R-75 might be a good choice for you. Combines ease of
operation with excellent performance. Depending on where you live, it can be
found new as low as USD 500. It is often seen on internet auctions like
ebay too.

I've lately found myself becoming more interested in MW BCB DXing. I have
several radios that do okay for casual use, but I'm looking for something a
bit
more serious. On the low end there is frequent mention of the GE Superadio
(which I have) and the CCRadio (which I also have), and I've seen a few
mentions of the newer Tecsun BCL-2000 as a fairly serious contender in this
price range. All of these radios are typically described as pretty decent
for
casual use, but not really sensitive enough for true DXing. On the other
end
of the spectrum I've seen the Drake R8B described as being one of the better
choices for BCB DXing (in addition to just about any other kind of AM
DXing).
Does anyone know of a currently produced radio that would perform better
than
the low end models but cost a bit less than the R8B?
I've seen the Lowe HF-150 mentioned as an excellent BCB DX machine, but it's
out of production and I haven't seen any used ones advertised recently.
(Though
I may not be looking in the right places.)
I'm aware that the radio is just part of the overall equation. For the
moment,
though, that's the part I'd like to address. Any input on this topic will
be
greatly appreciated.

[HCDX] Logs

2004-01-17 Thread Norrieclan
Before the logs a quick plug for the New Zealand tourist industry. If you
fancy a holiday with a long surf beach as far as the eye can see, crystal
clean water with no nasty stinging creatures, wine farms within driving
distance, fishing par excellence and great DX for the Americas and parts of
Asia and the Pacific, try Ohope Beach on the North Island's east coast- the
aptly named Bay of Plenty. Best weather, mid January to mid March.

Although primarily looking for medium wave Dx, the following logs were
interesting. All made on AOR 7030 with a 15m long wire.

AUSTRALIA

5049.99, ARDS, best heard at 18.03, which is morning in NZ, giving station
details and the phone number 8997 3910, weak at best, evening loggings
post 10.00 obliterated by Chinese language on 5050 (confirming Guy Atkins
observations), although Oh come all ye faithful heard the previous
evening at 09.54. Look out for lots of hymns to help ID (Norrie, 17th Jan)

BRAZIL

3255.04, Radio Dif 6 de Agosto(p), 09.50, weak but distinctive Brazilian
language, accordion type music then male almost preaching voice, needs
more work and a longer wire! (Norrie, Jan 13th)

INDONESIA

2960, RPDT2 Manggarai (p), 11.06, slow Indonesian language with frequent
mentions of radio... but never strong enough to hear full ID, not // to
any of the RRI's (not unexpected), new log for me, only audible the one
evening although carrier present most nights (Norrie, 15th Jan)

3344.86 RRI Ternate, 10.33, tuning through band came across this one with
about 5 ID's in 30 seconds, fair to good (Norrie, 17th Jan)

4790 RRI Fak Fak, 10.28, playing cover versions of Venus (Shocking blue)
and Honky Tonk woman (RollingStones), strong ID and regular every
evening, rock solid on 4790. (Norrie, 17th Jan)

4870 RRI Wamena, 09.36, have seen this reported as Sorong but I heard firm
Wamena ID with news on (strangely) Andrah Pradesh Indian affairs (Norrie,
16th Jan)

IRAN
6160, V of the Islamic Republic (p), 04.39, fair signal with Arabic
language (Norrie, 17th Jan)

KOREA
3930.05 Korean BC(p), 09.42, little reported station in Korean language,
plagued by mild jamming (Norrie 16th Jan)

PNG

Bandscan revealed following frequencies active Jan 13th at 09.50 most with
good to very good signals

3205, 3220, 3260, 3275, 3290, 3305, 3325, 3335, 3365, 3375. 3325
(Bougainville) outlet had news at 10.04 of two policeman being fined 900
Kena for possession of pornographic material, excellent signal (Norrie, Jan
13th). 4890 heard at 19.00,this is the national broadcasting corporation
of PNG .

PERU

5009.67 R Altura, 10.52, lovely signal with announcer proclaiming on
