7370, UNIDENTIFIED, *2224-2258, June 2, Mandarin?, Follow up to my April 6, unidentified log of this frequency w/ much improved reception. Same format, tho the language is in (p) Mandarin/SE Asian dialect?, NOT Spanish as previously thought (wished?). IS loop at s/on of musical fanfare and OM w/ presumed IDs. YL over music at 2230. A few musical bits then long talks by OM w/ classical music bridges at 2240, 2249 and 2257. YL w/ tentative e-mail/web address I could not fully copy. Buried at 2258 by R. Marti 7365 s/on splatter. Fair signal at t/in, slowly fading, needed LSB by t/out. Can't locate any listings for 7370 at this time. Any ideas? I suspect CNR, China. Radio Elvi, Mieslahti, Paltamo will be back in the air on Mon 7th June - Fri 11th June 2004. The frequency is 90,0 MHz FM with 40 watts of power. The tx is situated some 170 meters above the sea level. The antennatower is 15 m and broadcasting is vertical. Reception reports are welcome to Radio Elvi, c/o Tanja Kemppainen, Rinnetie 12, 88300 Paltamo, Finland. The programs are made by young and children in a media camp in Paltamo. Some of the programs may be in Russian as there can be Russian children too. Mostly the program is in Finnish. News can be heard every hour on 90,0 MHz. PAPUA NEW GUINEA 4960, 0958-1300 June 4 first noted just above threshold level with male female talk in English. Hail Mary, Full of Grace prayers by two people in unison at 1001. Flute music, then PNG sing-sing style of music at 1004. Signal improved to fair over the next half hour, with apparent BBC relay of two Brit-accented announcers to 1027, mentioning Media(?) World News and BBC and also Radio New Zealand at 1028. Vatican Radio interval signal at 1029, followed by xylophone drums. Many mentions of Papua New Guinea by male female announcers 1030-1032. Signal continued to improve slowly to Vatican Radio IS again at 1040. Devotion prayer reading 1045, Vatican IS at 1059, then clear ID by female This is the Catholic Radio Network of Papua New Guinea at 1059:50, followed by song Thy Loving Kindness and instrumental tunes. ID again at 1110 in English followed by mention of Rabaul, but the female announcer switched to Tok Pisin at this point. By 1130 CRN's signal had improved to very good, with a mix of male announcer in Tok Pisin and contemporary religious music to dead air from 1200:40 to 1201:08. Religious tunes continued uninterrupted to 1245, when a recorded mass or devotional segment from the Vatican was introduced by two male announcers. If this very good signal continues, it will be easily audible on the East Coast of the USA... better try for CRN before Wayne Wilson of TE-PNG tweaks the antenna system!
