2004-10-11 Thread J999w
Here's another one for you folks !

Recorded on October 11, 2004, approx 0500z, frequency 690khz from here in
Milwaukee, WI. Yaesu FT767gx ham transceiver + Palstar MW550P + 3 ft box loop.
CINF Montreal nulled but still audible in the clip as a woman in FF. Man in clip
says something like Buenos noches ... [jingle] ... ? sesenta nueve AM ...
Columbia lopatenza ... [jingle] .

Clip here: http://members.aol.com/j999w/DX

Clip is 590kb .wav file, 1 min and 9 sec.

I've been chasing this one for two days now, this is the best ID I've heard
yet out of some 16 hours of recording (oh yes, there's much more).

Any ideas?

[HCDX] Super TP Mediumwave Conditions This Morning

2004-10-11 Thread Guy Atkins
The ionosphere really cooperated this AM! Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and
possibly Russian stations were heard across the low- and mid-band of
mediumwave, from 1340 to 1440 UTC. In all, I had 23 mediumwave split
frequencies heard with at least threshold audio.

Strongest of all were 594 (Japanese), 693 (Japanese), 774 (Japanese), 972
(Korean), and 1143 kHz (Chinese).

Particularly noteworthy was 693 JOAB Tokyo with English news, parallel to
774 with Radio Japan news including shortwave frequencies and meterband
announcement. A short recording is here:
http://www.guyatkins.com/files/JOAB_693_EE_nx.mp3 The announcer in the clip
seems to be talking about the overnight mooring of the USS Lake Erie
(http://www.lake-erie.navy.mil/) at Hidekei (sp?) Port in Japan, with
mention's of the vessel's special defensive radar capabilities.

I also had Chinese coming in on 738, which was likely the Hunan Satellite BS
station from Changsha, at 200 kw.

Most intriguing was a possible Russian station, 657 kHz heard around 1350.
If so, it's the R. Rossi station in Chita, Siberia. A short recording is
here: http://www.guyatkins.com/files/657_kHz.mp3 Can anyone help confirm
the language? I didn't get the frequency exactly at zero-beat in LSB, so
it's a bit squawky.

[HCDX] Possible Russian Lang. on 657 ID'd as Korean

2004-10-11 Thread Guy Atkins
Thanks to everyone who replied to me about the unid station on 657. It's
definitely Korean, and one HCDX'er was able to get a few phrases of content:

I listened to it a couple of times again and got the following:
Socialism ,
If we can not solve solve
World
Republic (as in North Korean Republic)
possibly a reference to Kim Chong-il (current North Korean leader)
Korean peninsula

It is a political talk about some sort of a problem on the Korean Peninsula.

My inclination is Pyongyang BS.

I've logged Russia on mediumwave while DXing at the coast, but I haven't
(yet) heard it inland at home. Oh well, Pyongyang is still a nice catch,
here in the shadow of the Seattle powerhouses on MW.

here: http://www.guyatkins.com/files/657_kHz.mp3 Can anyone help confirm
the language? I didn't get the frequency exactly at zero-beat in LSB, so
it's a bit squawky.

AW: [HCDX] 1377 China hrd in Brazil

2004-10-11 Thread Günter Lorenz
First time for China on medium wave in Brazil. The 1377 kHz Henan
province CNR station was heard yesterday Oct 9, at 21,00-21,35 UTC
during a dx-pedition in Ilha Comprida, South Brazil, 300 km SW of Sao
Paulo. Probably we enjoyed a rare long path via South Pole (China is
some 18,000 km away) due to very low magnetic activity these days
The location was a car on the beach, with a AOR 7030 + 150 long wire on
ground pointed to E-SE, phased with a 30mt wire via the Quantum Phaser.

Compliments to this excellent log, Rocco!

Interestingly, the signal on 1377 was heard at a similar times in Central
Europe. I noted it on Sept 30 from 21:30 to 21:50 UTC. Looking at a Great
Circle Map produced with W6EL software, I doubt the long path theory.
Distance on the short path is approx 17.000 km, all in darkness (64
degrees), while long path (244 degrees) is in daylight.

Good DX and73,

Günter Lorenz
