[HCDX] Radio Melodia
Peru, 5939.28, Radio Melodia, 1018-1030 Various persons giving news and comments, with mentions of Peru. Signal was poor to threshold with hets and noise. (Chuck Bolland, September 3, 2005) Peru, 6020.20 Radio Victoria, 1025-2030 Noted the crying preacher in religious comments. Usual QRM from station on 6020. Overall, Victoria was poor. (Chuck Bolland, September 3, 2005) Bolivia, 6134.75, Radio Santa Cruz, 1030-1035 Noted a man and woman in comments. Probably the Quehua Language. At 1032 heard canned ID as, ... Santa Cruz... in Spanish. As usual at this time, the signal was good. (Chuck Bolland, September 3, 2005) Clewiston, Florida NRD545, Dipole ---[Start Commercial]- World Radio TV Handbook 2005 is out. Thank you very much Hans Johnson and Glenn Hauser for information and feedback regarding my unID Católica Mundial on 5745.75 kHz. I do not know if it´s Bolivia or not - I have just a feeling that it is not. I did not listen this morning, I was very occupied with my unID Bolivian on 1590.43 kHz but after months of listening I now have the ID and will present the station later today or tomorrow on my web ID-site. http://www.malm-ecuador.com 73s Bjorn Malm, Quito, Ecuador __ Correo Yahoo! [HCDX] 2nd listening session last night and correction to my logs
Last night, after my report, I went back to the dials to note an unID alternative soft-rock music station on 1070 kHz, not CBA as wasn't // to local 88.5. Have a low growl on 1070 since this spring when I wasn't very active. Also fairly strong signal from WPRX-1120 with up-beat salsa and merengue music, but with lots of jumpy fades and low-level slops from WBBR-1130. The most interesting of all was drum based music on 4910 kHz, but the buzzing noises wich were present on my Sangean ATS-818 receiver where too tiring for me to pursuit DX'ing on this channel, while on the AM band it was the reverse with no powerline or whatever intense buzzing noises QRM like I founded when I got back at home. Nothing else really interesting though except what I reported from the early-to-mid evening car-radio adventure. Went to bed briefly after 1 AM after listening to a report on WTOP-1500 about an accident on the interstate 6 and about the damages of Katrina. Unfortunatly, I made a mistake, putting ocho y cincuenta y cinco instead of ocho y cincuenta y dos on the Radio Carúpano logs. Here is the correction: 1110 VENEZUELA, YVQT, Carúpano, Sucre SEP 3 0048 - Building from extremely weak to very good in about 3 minutes, in the beginning slightly weaker, equal or very slightly stronger than WBT with a romantic salsa tune (I remember the words Dame un poco calor - Give me a little bit of hotness). At 0052 almost booming in with En Venezuela, ocho y cincuenta y dos minutos ... Radio Centro (what Radio Centro really mean ? It is intriguing) followed by a melodic romantic salsa tune. By 0054, WBT was covering them well, and at 0055 it was all WBT. However at 0106 surfaced again strongly, though under excellent WBT (wich by the way had a talkshow w/ a passionate anchor - don't remember his name - about the criminality in New Orleans due to the Katrina hurricane) with Desnudate Mujer by Frankie Ruiz, covered before the end of the tune by music jingles and traffic jingles from WBT wich made it unlistenable. Also heard way under WBT a few minutes later with llanera and what sounded like Carúpano after a soft maracas or cuatro quitar rhythm, harp and flute llanera tune but too much WBT to be sure (only heard the ...no clearly). (Chiochiu-QC) Thank you very much Bruce and Risto Kotalampi for correcting this one. Have a good 3 days long week-end ! [HCDX] Is WJIE Shortwave Silent ??
Is WJIE shortwave from Kentucky, U.S.A. off the air? I have been checking for them for sometime, using the published skeds on several of the DXing websites, with no luck. The 2 frequencies I see posted for them are 7490 and 13595. I don't hear them on 13 megs, and the 41 meter frequency is occupied by WHRI. If they're not silent, have they changed frequencies and/or times? 73, -- J.D. Stephens / U.S.A. __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! [HCDX] Radio Centro mystery - Venezuelan logs from THIS evening and 1 domestic
Hello to all of you ! This was heard on the Mazda Protégé's car-radio in Pointe-Clerc, QC and while driving back to Pierrefonds: 910 VENEZUELA, YVRQ, AM Center, Caracas, DF SEP 3 0056 - with gaita about Maracaibo (sounded like Guaco but too poor reception to be sure). Very poor reception, but clearly them. (Chiochiu-QC) 970vt VENEZUELA, (can't find the call-letters for this one) Mundial Oriental, Barcelona, Anzoátegui SEP 3 0057 - Very tentative ! Briefly tuned away from 910 to find bits of salsa here. Also around 0109, but at all the other check this channel was dominated by a domestic talker, most likely WZAN. Would like this one, it would be Anzoátegui number 3 (Union Radio 640 very regular and Barcelona 1080 once). (Chiochiu-QC) 1110 VENEZUELA, YVQT, Carúpano, Sucre SEP 3 0048 - Building from extremely weak to very good in about 3 minutes, in the beginning slightly weaker, equal or very slightly stronger than WBT with a romantic salsa tune (I remember the words Dame un poco calor - Give me a little bit of hotness). At 0052 almost booming in with En Venezuela, ocho y cincuenta y cinco minutos ... (Chiochiu-QC) Domestic DX: 870 WHCU Ithaca, NY SEP 2 2059 - ID heard with an excited Spanish announcer way under (HJSB ?). New ! WLAM is almost certainly auroraED out and WWL is now inactive, isnt it ? (Chiochiu-QC) When we arrived at home we stucked into the powerline noises so I lost the weak 910 Caracas station (1110 was all WBT the last time I checked). I tried just about a half-hour ago with the Sanyo radio in my room and outside too, but DX is almost impossible, even domestic one. My very strong semi-local WVMT-620 is almost incomprehensible due to high level of powerline-like noises. We went to pick up my mother from work and afterward went to eat Thailandese food while she was buzzy at the Bank and at shops at Fairview, Pointe Clerc (the largest commercial center on Montreal's West Island). I left listening to a nice Spanish report about Venezuela donating millions of $ to help Louisiana on Montreal's CKUT 90.3 McGill University with no skywave at all and when me and my father returned after the food a big 20 minutes before my mother finnished with her duties I founded YVQT and WBT fading in all-together on 1110. What surprised me is that I'm almost sure I heard Radio Centro during the 0052 break on 1110, and Radio Carúpano has absolutly nothing to do with any Radio Centro, nor with the AM Center network wich heardquarter is YVRQ-910 in Caracas. Is it a new slogan ? Maybe I misunderstood it ? I cannot tape what I hear on car-radio, so can't review for a 100% accurate report. I had a buzzy 48 hours; I finnished the German class yesturday and after the exam had a party. I talked with the other students and the teacher about religion, music and several other interesting things, I eated some pizza and even did some breakdancing (was filmed and photographiated while doing this !). Had school since Thursday. Only sleeped about 6 hours and a half the past two nights. I'm a bit anxious because this Tuesday, I'll see two doctors: one for the chemiotherapy and the other was the one who operated me this summer. DX'ing has changed my ideas, but due to this stupid noises, I can't do it anymore until later this evening (+ the little alignement problem). I therefore profited to write this report. It's nice though for that early in the DX season to see that Venezuela is well represented and presumably Colombia on this Wensday evening of AUG 31 (SEP 1 UTC) too on 1170. By the way before going to bed that night for about 1 minute, fútbol surfaced again on 1170 with WWVA on my Sanyo, but too much WWVA for picking any words this time though. Well, that's it for now ! I'm going try to DX a little bit if the noise did cease and sleep of course, I may have a pretty buzzy week-end, Just before I left, I'd appreciate if anyone have an idea on why I heard the Radio Centro slogan on YVQT-1110. Keep the good DX stuff with you ! Bogdan Chiochiu (QTH: Pierrefonds - Montreal's West Island, QC) ---[Start Commercial]- World Radio TV Handbook 2005 is out. Order yours from
Re: [HCDX] 2nd listening session last night and correction to my logs
Bogdan and others, My understanding is the CBC in New Brunswick (CBSA for example) is NOT on strike, there. Which might possibly mean some separate programming. I don't know this for sure, as I have been in Toronto and unable to listen. But this is soemthing you should consider. I don't know otherwise, offhand, who would do light rock on 1070. Re: [HCDX] Is WJIE Shortwave Silent ??
As I just reported in DX Listening Digest 5-153: ** U S A. WJIE has been active lately on 7490; Sept 2 at 1346 some guy talking about God, somewhat distorted, and with CCI under from FE; intermittent het from a carrier around 7491. WJIE may be next to be ordered off its OOB frequency. Only IDs heard are for WJIE-FM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) They are certainly irregular, and I believe they were missing about 24 hours later. Best time to hear them would be in the daytime if you are close enough. WHR is scheduled on 7490 at 00-03 and 05-07, per WHR website. FCC A-05 also has WHRA at 07-09, but WHR shows them off the air at this time; and FCC shows 7490 0900 2400 WJIE 50 155 11-13 1234567 270305 301005 But that doesn`t mean they are really using the entire 15-hour span. Have not heard them on 13595 for many months, tho that is supposedly available: 13595 2200 1000 WJIE 50 55 9,27 1234567 270305 301005 73, Glenn Hauser --- J.D. [HCDX] Venezuela-1110 log
Hello to all of you ! A shorter message this time. This early evening noted WUHN-1110 wich replaced the Spanish domestic in Pittsfield, MA (it was them not the RI one - new here, but it's heard nightly, it's the only time I stuck around for an ID) as well as Radio Carúpano (the only Latin that was reliable). On SW got Argentina and Italy on 6060 strong, but with extreme QRM. Here is the log: 1110 VENEZUELA, YVQT, Radio Carúpano, Carúpano, Sucre SEP 3 2354 - Strong for about 1 minute with sporting event, probably beisbol. Rapid-fire announcer, mention of Barcelona; slightly over WBT. Then both lost to WUHN. At 0001 surfaced again weakly for a few seconds with QRM, and at 0004 slightly stronger than at 0001 with mention of el segundo. + SEP 4 0307 - lively Latin American music, talk incomprehensible, I thought I heard radio Extremely weak to poor, and for a few seconds even atop WBT wich faded out at times (YVQT faded about the same times, but when both comed back, YVQT was slightly atop for a few seconds). WBT had talk about the evacuation of the Katrina's victims. Also heard was a report from a meteorolog in Colorado who said the Hurricane season didn't even officially begun, and that 6 more Hurricanes will come through until November when the season ends. Then into Coast to Coast talkshow w/ Gypsy Kings intro and with the announcer criticating George W Bush. Taped the 0307 receptions. Maybe tomorrow or Monday, I will encode them in real-audio. (Chiochiu-QC) 6060 ARGENTINA and unID SEP 3 2330 - Tango + man in SP with sports talk (heard a mention of campionado). Parallel 15345 not audible, because the Sangean radio is less sensitive above 8 or 9 MHz than on the tropical and lower international bands. Was mixing with woman talk (couldn't ID the language of the second signal because of poor signal and QRM). Second signal not // 6030, so maybe Italy. Poor signals from both w/ splatter from Family Radio 6065. By 2344, it become impossible to hear at all, because Family Radio improoved too much. (Chiochiu-QC) Sanyo MCD-S830 AM/FM portable with ferrite bar antenna Sangean CST-818 w/ over 10 meters of long-wire in our interior yard QTH: Pierrefonds (Montreal's West Island), QC I'm going to try to reinstall the Quantum loop to my Sangean radio and try to find a cord for encoding the WBT/YVQT reception in real-audio tomorrow, I think. For instance, that's it for now ! I'm gonna try to DX again for a few minutes then have some needed sleep.
