[HCDX] Navin Kumar is Interim CEO, Prasar Bharati

2006-07-01 Thread sakthi vel
Navin Kumar, Director-General, Doordarshan is tipped
to take over as CEO of public broadcaster Prasar
Bharati, as an interim arrangement. A 1975-batch Bihar
cadre officer, he takes over from K S Sarma, who
demitted his office from today.

Kumar has been Director-General at DD since February
2004 and will assume the CEO's post on an ad-hoc basis
till the appointment of a regular CEO by a
three-member committee headed by Vice president
Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Kumar's deputation at the
Centre ends this August.

K S Sarma, is credited with an aggressive strategy on
TV rights and giving a commercial orientation to the
running of Doordarshan and All India Radio, feels the
Government needs to adopt a middle path approach on
operational and editorial matters in the running of
the public broadcaster.

According to a PTI report, Sarma, feels that Prasar
Bharati will become a financially viable entity in the
next three years, not dependent on Government finances
to meet expenses.

Sarma has kicked off various initiatives which have
see Prasar Bharati cut down its dependence on
Government for meeting expenditure, which is to the
tune of roughly Rs 1,800 crore annually.

I see enormous future for Prasar Bharati. The
potentialities for revenues are enormous without
sacrificing our role as a public broadcaster. We have
taken a number of initiatives that are aimed at
enhancing resources from the existing set-up, he
said, adding the public broadcaster could be
self-sufficient in the next three years.

The slew of new initiatives and cricket telecast saw
the cash-strapped public broadcaster realise its
highest-ever revenues as they crossed the Rs
1,000-crore mark to close 2005-06 at Rs 1,230 crore at
a growth of 48 per cent.

In-house marketing of properties, revenues from
cricket telecast and increased media campaigns from
government departments were among the initiatives
behind the growth in numbers. Sarma said introduction
of blockbuster Hindi films on DD National network and
narrowcasting programming strategy were major
initiatives.

Sarma said one of the big opportunities for Prasar
Bharati was through scrolling of local advertisements.
We have around 600 low-power transmitters and 300
high-power transmitters. Through each of these, we can
run scrolls which will have local advertising. I have
supplied requisite equipment at every place and now
they a going to start. We have as much as Rs 100 crore
sitting in this area, he said to PTI.

[HCDX] Deutsche Welle joins hand with DD Direct +

2006-07-01 Thread sakthi vel
In a bid to strengthen its foothold in India, the
German pubcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) has enterted into
an agreement with DD Direct+, the pubcaster Prasar
Bharti managed direct-to-home service to emit its
programmes via a DD satellite transponder in India.

In a statement issued today, DW will be present with
DW-TV programmes in English and German, and in future
possibly also with radio programmes in English and
Hindi or other languages. At present, only the
state-financed Doordarshan and one pay platform
broadcast via DTH signal, which guarantees a
technically brilliant and reliable emission.

We are very happy to step up our presence in India,
says Deutsche Welle director strategy, marketing and
distribution Guido Baumhauer. This is a great
opportunity for DW television. We have excellent
contacts with Prasar Bharati, which runs Doordashan,
and we are working together on a number of projects.
With Doordashan and DW both being public broadcasters,
I'm sure this new cooperation will be a positive
experience for all sides.

The release states that the DD Direct+ reaches far
more housholds than pay TV and is expected to be the
biggest DTH platform in Asia, which opens up a lot of
possibilities for the DW regarding regional
broadcasting of its programming. Prasar Bharati CEO K
S Sarma, actively supported the German bid for the
place on DD Direct+.

This is due to DW's outstanding reputation as an
international public broadcaster of high quality,
comments DW general manager Erik Bettermann. Asia is
one of our focus regions. We are happy to expand our
market in India, and Doordarshan, as a long-standing
player in the Indian media business, is an excellent
partner for us.

The DD DIRECT+ platform carries 33 free-to-air (FTA)
channels, including 19 DD channels, 14 private TV
channels and 12 All India Radio (AIR) audio channels
and is likely to include more channels in the future.
The approximate cost of the equipment to view DD
channels is around Rs. 1800/- including Set Top Box,
LNB and antena.

[HCDX] algo de mis últimas escuchas

2006-07-01 Thread aurel chiochiu
¡ Saludos cordiales queridos amigos y estimados compañeros !

106.9 (CKQB The Bear).

Robert Charlebois (cantante folk-rock/pop-rock quebequensce).

Bogdan Alexandru Chiochiu

[HCDX] NRK 1314 currently off the air

2006-07-01 Thread Risto Kotalampi

It has been confirmed by the Finnish DXer Jorma Mäntylä: NRK powerhouse
1314 kHz is off the air. Permanently? Regardless, this is a great
opportunity to tune into 1310, 1314 and 1320 and get those rare stations
usually covered by the strong signal of NRK. Of course, from
transamerican perspective this is a loss of an early propagation
indicator on medium wave.

Re: [HCDX] NRK 1314 currently off the air

2006-07-01 Thread Jorma Mantyla
NRK website www.nrk.no says:

Europakanalen legges ned 1. juli 2006.
satellitten.

This means that the Europakanal-service was discontinued
on July 1. The NRK web-site indicates that 1314 kHz is not any more
listed. The only active AM-stations in Norway are now Troms/Ingöy 153
kHz, Vigra 630 kHz, Röst 675 kHz and Svalbard 1485 kHz.

The Norwegian dx-listeners' club confirms the discontinuation
of Europakanalen on 1314 kHz:
