2007-10-26 Thread Chuck
Peru, 5939.30, Radio Melodia, 2335-2359 With the usual commentary and features,
noted two males in conversation. Mentions of Lima and Peru heard. Signal
stays in until about 2356 at fair level, but starts to fade beyond that time.
Also heard with a good signal the following morning at 0855-0915 with
same format of Spanish comments and news by male. Heard live ID
as, Radio Melodia... during comments.Condx of the signal in at this
time was good!. (Chuck Bolland, October 25 26, 2007

Russia, 9765, Radiostantsiya Tikhiy Okean, 0845-0900 Tuned in late after
the sign-on. Heard a male and female either in news or commentary at
that time. At 0853 music presented. Signal was poor. (Chuck Bolland,
October 26, 2007)

Bolivia, 3310, Mosoj Chaski, 0910-0930 Noted a female in Spanish
comments. Heard place names like, Santa Cruz, and Bolivia.
Signal was poor. Seemed like the band hadn't faded in yet.
(Chuck Bolland, October 26, 2007)

Puerto Rico, 3137, Weather, 0925--0933 Female relaying surface weather to
a male in English in Simplex mode. Female had American accent while male
had a British accent. At close, ID given by female as, This is Puerto Rico
out ...
Could not find and reference for the location of the Puerto Rico Station in the
Confidential
Frequency List. Signal was good for both stations.

[HCDX] Kenwood R2000 question

2007-10-26 Thread cafe

I have owned a previously loved Kenwood R2000 for over ten years now.

With the acquisition of a Drake R8, I tend to not use it as much.
Still, it is a fabulous receiver that matches the R8 db for db in
terms of sensitivity. If anything, the R2000 has a skoosh more in its
ability to dig signals out of the mud - especially CW.

This receiver has the VC-10 VHF converter and other than the odd
re-seating to make it work properly, the VHF converter has worked
flawlessly all these years. Until I turned it on yesterday...

The VHF reception is deaf. Long, medium and shortwave is as good as it
has always been. It tunes all the VHF frequencies as before but all I
hear is noise - not a hint of signals. I have tried several antennas
to no avail. The SW Antenna I usually use on this receiver is an old
Fire-stick whip (cut for CB) and it works well on all bands -
including VHF.

So. Does anyone have any experience with a deaf VHF converter? I am an
electronics technician with most of the tools except for a VHF signal
generator.

Ideas?
