Ecuador, 6080, HCJB, Voice of the Andes, 1017-1100 Noted a male in Quechua
language comments. Speaking very rapidly, not the typical style of HCJB
which
usually is more subdued.on this freq. At 1029 a steady program of music is
presented. At 1030 five time tones broadcasted over music. Music and
comments
continue into the last half of the hour. No sign of Gabriel here lately.
Signal of
HCJB was at first poor but faded in to a fair/good level. (Chuck Bolland,
Janaury 20,
2009)

Indonesia, 9525.94, Voice of Indonesia, 1050-1100 Initially at tune in
heard music
presented until a female commented in English at 1051. After a minute or two
music
returned. This format continued to the hour when an ID and URL was given.
Signal was fair. (Chuck Bolland, Janaury 20, 2009)

5005UNID. (NEPAL), Carrier here at 2350 on into new RayDay on 20
January. Just a hint of modulation, but never enough to catch any audio.
My friend Ram Karki, Technical Director of Radio Nepal, writes the
following:
" Regarding 5005 kHz, it is very old Harris SW 100 transmitter and running
on very low power. Perhaps you remember I asked your help to find the some
manufacturer for about 50 kW Short wave transmitter."

I guess I have to get it in gear and find a transmitter for them quickly, or
this DX spot is in danger of disappearing.

Well, we now have a new president. Let us all hope he can undo the misdeeds
of the previous regime.

2009-01-20 Thread T.C. Patterson
John Wright and All,

Not sure about SIBC's signal on 9541.5 from Honiara, Solomon Islands on
January 17 and 18 but gave a listen this afternoon (January 19) between 0600
and 0700 and they were putting a fair to good signal into the Philippines.

[HCDX] New DXpedition report from Finland

2009-01-20 Thread Mika Makelainen
After a two-year break in AM DXing, I finally found the time to spend
slightly over a week in the Arctic Northern part of Finland on a
DXpedition. This was DXpedition number 271 in Lemmenjoki, the most
popular DXpedition location in Lapland. Some of the highlights include
picking up a bunch of X-band stations from Australia and Argentina.
Conditions were not as good as two years earlier, but this was the first
time that I was able to use the magnificent Perseus receiver, so the
sheer volume of recordings is such that there will still be some neat
catches to be discovered, once I get to go through the recordings. You
can find the report with photos at
http://www.dxing.info/dxpeditions/lem271rep.dx but compiling the initial
log will probably take a couple of months more.

[HCDX] Eton E1 display problem question

2009-01-20 Thread cafe

Noticed this when I got back from Hawaii -
(the Eton E1 was left at home and obviously angry...)

On power up, the display is illuminated blue-gray... all
pixels "on" as it were...

Can power cycle it a few times and sometimes the display
will return for a bit and then die again.

Is this the beginning of the end of my Eton "obviously out of warranty" E1?

Pity. It is a great little portable.

[HCDX] Tues Morn DX'n

2009-01-20 Thread ka4prf
