Moi, kriisiradio toiminee katastrofialueella tai jossain tilapäispaikassa? Voisi kuvitella, että kyseisissä paikoissa EI saisi laitettua optimaalisia mastoja/ antenneja, jotta optimaalisiin tehoihin päästäisiin. Toisaalta, eikö noilla antenniratkaisuilla aseman kuuluvuussektori kapenisi aivan olemattomiin? Kriisitilanteessa useimmiten paras ratkaisu lienee kuitenkin melko ympärisäteilevä antenni... En ole lukenuty artikkelia vielä, mutta toimiiko kyseiset asemat lyhytaalloilla vai ULA-alueella [jos tiedotus asukkaille suunnattu]... Able to cover up to 20 kms ok- luin tuon linkin nyt- eli FM-kalusto ja antennitkin systeemissä mukana. Ulalla nuo antennirakennelmat jäävät tottakai aika pienikokoisiksi, mutta kun sanotaan 600 w tehoa ja peittoalueeksi 20 km, niin ei siinä kovin kummoisia antenneja kyllä käytetä... (Riippuen tietenkin alueesta). Mutta jo 50 watilla kattaa helposti isommakin alueen [kuuntelin joskus yliopistopoikien radioasemaa 50 km Rovaniemeltä Pohjoiseen] ja heilläkin antenni oli melko matalalla ja maastoesteisiin eteneminen lopulta tyssäsi... Tulipa kokeiltua VOA Radiogramia. Pistin viime Clusiveen asiasta schedulen ja vähän tekstiä. Enempää en osannut vielä laittaa, koska asia on itsellenikin uutta. Lyhyesti sanottuna VOA (ja muutamat muutkin asemat) kokeilevat lähettää tekstiä digitaalimodella lyhytaaltolähetyksessä. Amatöörit ovat kehittäneet vuosien varrella tarkoitukseen runsaasti eri menetelmiä. VOA käyttää MSFK:ta joko 16 tai 32 bitillä koodattuna. Vastaanottopuolella dekooderina käytetään ohjelmaa fldigi. http://www.w1hkj.com/Fldigi.html Lähinnä minua hämmästytti kuinka mp3-tallennus oli muuttanut signaalin aaltomaiseksi. En olisi arvannut, että vaatimaton lyhytaaltolähetys turmeltuu näin paljon pakkauksessa. Livenä dekoodattu MSFK-kuva robottikärpäsestä oli varsin terävä, mutta mp3-tallenteesta purettuna se oli kuin järven pinnalta napattu. Tekstikin (VOA:n avaruus- ja tiedeuutisia) dekoodautui livenä paremmin ja täsmällisemmin kuin tallenteelta. Tosin tässä on se ongelma, että poropeukalon käytössä maakuntasarjan kuuntelija, jolla on maakuntasarjan reaktioaika, ei saa muutettua modea fldigillä oikeaksi riittävän nopeasti, kun se vaihdetaan 16-bittisestä 32-bittiseksi ja päinvastoin. Kun tätä ei livenä ehdi tehdä, pitäisi lähetys tallentaa mahdollisimman häviöttömällä menetelmällä. C-kasetti saattaisi jopa olla parempi vaihtoehto kuin mp3. Toisinaan dekooderin taajuuskaistakin lähtee vaeltamaan omia aikojaan, enkä saanut sitä aina lukitettua signaaliin, vaikka kuinka oli LocK-näppäin pohjassa. Viikonloppuna lähetetty VOA Radiogram näytti olevan kahdeksas koelähetys lajiaan. Onko muilla kokemuksia vastaanotosta? Ainakin mystinen Mr Mauno Suomesta näytti päässeen VOA Radiogramin sivulle SSTV-kuvallaan. Noita häviöllisiä pakkaustapoja käytetään melko lailla - mutta näinhän siinä usein käy - kopio ei ole alkuperäisen näköinen. Ehkä wav-muoto olisi parempi - nauhoituksessa toki laatua määrää myös tuo näytteenottotaajuus ja käytetty äänikortti. Ongelmallinen laji pakkaus on muutoinkin - esim. tuo digi-TV näyttää paikallaan olevan kuvan todella tarkasti - mutta ei liikkuvaa kuvaa. Kun esim. tarpeeksi läheltä katsoo Sonyn HDTV-kuvaa - kovin suttuinen se liikkuvissa objekteissa on. Tähän ei ole syynä esim. näytön tarkkuus (1080p) tai näytön päivityksen hitaus - vaan signaalin pakkaus. Kaikkia pikseleitä ei meille näytetä ... Lähetyksen päätteeksi laitettiin musiikin sekaan viesti mystery modella, joka jäi kuuntelijoiden itsensä ratkaistavaksi. Kuuntelin sitä vähän aikaa, sain idean, avasin Multi-PSK:n ja kas, arvaukseni osui kerralla oikeaan. Tätä lähetysmodea ei nykyään enää käytetäkään oikeastaan missään, ei edes amatöörien kesken. Viimeksi se oli ammattimaisessa suosiossa toisen maailmansodan aikoihin. Kyllä amatöörit tuota ovat käyttäneet ja käyttänevät vieläkin. Sille on ollut kontestejakin, lieneekö into hiipunut ihan viime vuosina. Simo yrittää ilmeisesti olla vitsikäs, mutta kyllä tässä kokeilussa on tosi kysymyksessä. Tarkoitus VOA:lla ja vastaavilla on erityisesti tavoittaa kuuntelijoita niissä maissa, joissa internet-sensuuri estää vastaavan tavaran toimittamisen perille netin kautta. Menetelmän ovat kaiketi kehittäneet radioamatöörit; alkuperäistä tarkoitusperää en tiedä, mutta erilaista dataa tässä siis siirretään, vaikkapa webbisivuja sellaisenaan. VOA:n Kim Elliott esitteli hommaa SWL Festissä viime maaliskuussa. Tuosta on pieni maininta kirjoittamassani matkajutussa, joka on vielä odottamassa pääsyä lehteen. Lyhyesti sanottuna VOA (ja muutamat muutkin asemat) kokeilevat lähettää tekstiä digitaalimodella lyhytaaltolähetyksessä. Amatöörit ovat kehittäneet vuosien varrella tarkoitukseen runsaasti eri menetelmiä. VOA käyttää MSFK:ta joko 16 tai 32 bitillä koodattuna. Vastaanottopuolella dekooderina käytetään ohjelmaa fldigi. http://www.w1hkj.com/Fldigi.html Lähinnä minua hämmästytti kuinka mp3-tallennus oli muuttanut signaalin aaltomaiseksi. En olisi arvannut, että vaatimaton lyhytaaltolähetys turmeltuu näin paljon pakkauksessa. Livenä dekoodattu MSFK-kuva robottikärpäsestä oli varsin terävä, mutta mp3-tallenteesta purettuna se oli kuin järven pinnalta napattu. Tekstikin (VOA:n avaruus- ja tiedeuutisia) dekoodautui livenä paremmin ja täsmällisemmin kuin tallenteelta. Tosin tässä on se ongelma, että poropeukalon käytössä maakuntasarjan kuuntelija, jolla on maakuntasarjan reaktioaika, ei saa muutettua modea fldigillä oikeaksi riittävän nopeasti, kun se vaihdetaan 16-bittisestä 32-bittiseksi ja päinvastoin. Kun tätä ei livenä ehdi tehdä, pitäisi lähetys tallentaa mahdollisimman häviöttömällä menetelmällä. C-kasetti saattaisi jopa olla parempi vaihtoehto kuin mp3. Toisinaan dekooderin taajuuskaistakin lähtee vaeltamaan omia aikojaan, enkä saanut sitä aina lukitettua signaaliin, vaikka kuinka oli LocK-näppäin pohjassa. Viikonloppuna lähetetty VOA Radiogram näytti olevan kahdeksas koelähetys lajiaan. Onko muilla kokemuksia vastaanotosta? But the illusion of vintage is shattered when you notice the dual-line LCD on the top. The DAB+ has 10 preselect buttons but when you switch to FM, AM or LW bands you tune into the station using the oversized front dial. It has a line-out and stereo headphone ports, and will run off main power or 6 C batteries. The single 2-watt speaker limits the sound output but the style and options of different bands make this as functional as it is stylish. XDR-DS16iPN Sony, $199 sony.com.au Rating: 4/5 The Sony iPod dock design has been maintained fairly consistently across several product generations, and certainly this looks very familiar with the clock low in the front and an iPod connector at the base of an angled speaker. This steps up from previous models with the addition of the iPhone 5 Lightning connector and the sound is surprisingly good with twin 3.5-watt speakers. It might be too big for some bedside tables yet the dual alarms pitches it firmly at that market, with a big-button brightness control making it easy to control the display. MOVE 400D Pure, $179 pure.com/au Rating: 3.5/5 It might not be able to match the others in sound output, but there is plenty to like about this handy FM/digital radio from Pure. It's rechargeable (though a USB connector) and promises up to 60 hours of play on a charge. The design includes a handy fold-out stand to keep it upright, and it has an auxiliary input so you can use it to play music straight from your smartphone. Family Radio ministry started with a wrong turn in Oakland Richard Palmquist met Harold Camping after making an illegal left turn in Oakland. It was 1958, and Palmquist was a salesman for Sacred Records. The wrong turn brought him near a friend's house, and he stopped in for dinner. Palmquist shared a business idea with the man and his wife. I told them I thought the Bay Area needed a Christian radio station, and my friend told me, 'I know exactly who you should meet,' said Palmquist, now 91 and living in Nipomo, near Pismo Beach. Palmquist met Camping in April of that year, and Camping -- whose East Bay construction company had just helped develop Jack London Square -- said he would put up $5,000 in seed money. With Camping's money they printed brochures soliciting donations and raised $20,000 in loans. They bought Bay Area radio station KEIR, beginning the ministry's journey down an often turbulent road, capped off by a 2011 Rapture prediction that drew worldwide attention -- and ire. Five years into the ministry, Palmquist was pushed out by Camping, who wanted an executive director with a larger stature, Palmquist said. With offices on Hegenberger Road in Oakland, the nonprofit Family Radio now reaches listeners around the world in 75 languages -- locally on 610 AM and at www.familyradio.com. It started as a station airing religious songs, hymns and Bible studies, with no commercials. Family Radio had been one of the most legitimate, scandal-free religious organizations on earth, said Matt Tuter, Camping's longtime second-in-command. Most of the people who built Family Radio are theologically conservative people. Camping began his Judgment Day predictions in the early 1990s. Harold is a numbers person. As he looks at the Bible, he looks at numbers, Palmquist said of the onetime UC Berkeley engineering student. He's one of the most ardent Bible students I've ever met. He was a very brilliant man. The irony in what he says is he tells listeners, 'Don't believe what I say, believe the Bible.' But the semantics get reversed, because he wants them to actually believe what he tells them the Bible says. After his 2011 stroke, Camping felt like his place in the ministry was over, said board member Tom Evans. But at 91, Camping still comes into the Oakland headquarters almost every day. His mind is still sharp, Evans said, although acknowledging Camping's memory has suffered since his stroke and he can no longer do detailed Bible study. And Evans said Family Radio will continue after Camping is gone. Family Stations would continue to operate just fine without him, he said. We believe God is the power behind Family Radio. You see, every time one bit of the giant jigsaw puzzle falls into place, it simply shows an even bigger picture with even more gaps! It looks an impossible taskbut thanks to people who believe it's important to do somethinganything.to complete the picture, here we are a decade later, still working on the project. And, it's got bigger.have you seen the new features about radio broadcasting from 1953, 1963 and even 1988? These new Retro Radio Dial stories are great, all the stations you never knew existed and bundled up with the movies, music and books of those times..they're brand new, check them out at www.radioheritage.net Supporters are literally, dying ___ Sadly, many of the people who first talked with us about their own experiences from the period leading up to the 1940's are no longer with us, but you'll find their legacy woven through the hundreds of features at www.radioheritage.net. So on the down days, it's the thought of staying true to those people.of honoring their stories.. that keeps me going. Why it works You know, you've got to want to see history kept, you've got to be willing to share the memories, and you've got to be willing to make sacrifices...so you feel humbled when someone says.. * 'I remember that station, my Mom used to listen to it, here's the badge she got as a girl from that station' * 'My Dad worked at that station in the jungle, and here are some photos he sent us back home. Will you let others see them please?' * 'I never left my hometown, but I traveled the world with my radio and I've got old books and letters and cards from the people I heard and I'm afraid they'll all be thrown out when they move me out. Thank you for taking care of them for me.'.. Yes, radio has a way of connecting us all...over the years.over the milesand across cultures...countrieslanguages..all part of the big jigsaw I mentioned earlier. Less money but more people __ But we had 30% more people coming to the website last year, spending many hours finding things they wanted, and enjoying the many new features.so I figure we're doing something right. It's just that everyone thinks that if it's on the internet, it should be available for free. Well, it is, but it costs us something to get it there. And that's where you come in. Radio Heritage Foundation www.radioheritage.com May 14 2013 Media Release Retro Radio Dial 1953 Middle East/Central Asia A fascinating look back 60 years ago to 1953 and the radio stations that could be heard from the Middle East/Central Asia has just been released by the Radio Heritage Foundation at www.radioheritage.com. You'll find a complete list of stations along the dial from Cyprus and Turkey in the west, Pakistan in the east, Saudi Arabia in the south, and Georgia and Azerbaijan in the north and all points in between. Radio Pakistan has the strongest presence on the dial, and also had the largest number of registered radio receivers by far. You'll find many long gone radio stations, and others that have survived since this turbulent year in the region. This was a period less than 10 years after the end of WWII when broadcasting was in its early days in the region. Many countries simply did not have a local radio station of any kind and shortwave was the main type of broadcasting, with few on mediumwave and none on FM. Retro Radio Dial Middle East/Central Asia 1953 is the latest of a new series exploring the global radio dials at important times during the last century. The Cold War was in full swing in this region. This is the latest of a new series looking at radio broadcasting in 1953; due shortly are the Philippines, North Asia [centered on China], South Asia [centered on India] and South East Asia [centered on newly independent Indonesia.] You'll also find popular movies of 1953, the top 20 songs of the year, and recommended reading about the region of this era as well as useful facts which all help contribute to understanding the context of the 1953 radio dial in the Middle East/Central Asia.
