Re: [DX] SAR- ja protonirevontulet

2016-01-22 Thread Ilkka Martikainen
Tutkiskelin hieman jutun taustoja.

"The midlatitude stable red auroral (SAR) arcs are well known examples of
electron heating in the upper F - region (400 km) of the Earth's ionosphere
that produces red aurora (see low-latitude aurorae)." Eli keskikorkeus n.
400 km.

Total photon emission (R) Total energy emission (ergs)
POLAR AURORA
IBC I 68200 0,18
IBC II 682000 1,8
IBC III 682 18,0
IBC IV 6820180,0
M/SAR arc 80000,025 (Arvot teoksesta The Light
of the Night Sky)

Kovin on pientä tavalliseen ns. polar aurora -ilmiöön verrattuna.

FM Listin lokissa näkyy 3.11.2015 JJJ:n pohjoisesta kuulema SP P3 (Kiruna)
taajuudella 96,4 MHz klo 1411 UTC.
AuroraEs kohdalla. Aika ei tosin käy ihan kohdalleen, visuaaliset
SAR-revontulet on nähty esim. 3.11.2015 n. 1830-2000 SA (etupäässä
Keski-Suomessa).

Sehän on kiinteään
asennukseen tarkoitettua tavaraa,

galvaanista kosketusta itse johtimeen.

[DX] VOA Radiogram, program 147, 23-24 January 2016,

2016-01-22 Thread Kari Kallio
Hello friends,
Last weekend's long transmission of Olivia 64-2000 was very interesting. It did
result in some successful decodes under difficult conditions. You can see some
examples here
http://voaradiogram.net/post/137804494562/olivia-64-2000-noise-prevails-over-local-noise
http://voaradiogram.net/post/137594112122/olivia-64-2000-from-north-carolina-decodes-in

One thing I discovered is that, when receiving and decoding Olivia 64-2000, it
is important that the receiver bandwidth be wide enough to include all of the
data, which extends to 2500 Hz above and below the carrier frequency.
Otherwise, you cannot take advantage of all the redundancy built in to the
Olivia 64-2000 mode.
Those of you who can record the audio using an SDR receiver can experiment with
various bandwidths, shape factors, AM versus SSB, etc.
Anyway, last weekend's Olivia 64-2000 was so much fun that we'll include one
news item in that mode this weekend, in addition to our usual MFSK32. Here is
the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 147, 23-24 January 2016, all in MFSK32
except where noted:

1:32 Program preview
2:49 Evidence of "Planet Nine."*
8:15 Plastic in oceans*
12:51 Olivia 64-2000: Papal Fiat to be auctioned
23:02 MFSK32: Image, closing announcements, and snow*
* with image
Please send reception reports to radiog...@voanews.com .
VOA Radiogram transmission schedule
(all days and times UTC):
Sat 0930-1000 5865 kHz
Sat 1600-1630 17580 kHz
Sun 0230-0300 5745 kHz
Sun 1930-2000 15670 kHz
All via the Edward R. Murrow transmitting station in North Carolina.
The Mighty KBC will transmit a minute of MFSK32 Sunday at 0220 UTC (Saturday
9:20 pm EST) on 6040 kHz, via Germany. Please send reports for KBC reception to
Eric: themighty...@gmail.com .
I will use this weekend of snow in Washington to catch up on your reception
reports. I'm now alternating between the oldest and newest reports, gradually
working my way to the middle. If you haven't seen the gallery of MFSK32 images
I send in response to reports, a recent example is posted here ...
http://voaradiogram.net/post/137590152087/pictures-in-color-no-less-via-shortwave

If you have an Android device, try
TIVAR to decode
the modes on VOA Radiogram. For computers, Fldigi.
I hope you can tune in and write in this weekend.

[HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs January 21-22, 2016

2016-01-22 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
** BRAZIL. Correxion: 4894.92, NOT typo 4892.92. Tnx to Thomas Nilsson for
catching this:

4894.92, Jan 21 at 0632, very poor signal with music vs CODAR, the exact offset
previously logged for R. Novo Tempo, Campo Grande MS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6000, Jan 22 at 1258 check, RHC back on correct frequency after
deviation to 5990 yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 810, Jan 22 at 1308 UT, long talk about the PRI and Tamaulipas, each
mentioned several times, elexion coming 5 de junio; 1313 fade. This time I
tentatively think it`s XEFW Tampico on 50 kW day power by now, instead of 100
watt XERI Reynosa, which I definitely heard in the nightmiddle. Altho Neil
Kazaross says XERI was already announcing 5 kW (day anyway) a year ago despite
later listings as 1 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1400, Jan 21 at 1934 UT on caradio, surprised to be getting KREF
Norman past local splasher 1390 KCRC, mentioning Pauls Valley, town further
beyond Norman. Is successor to onetime WORLD OF RADIO affiliate KNOR (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 7325-, Jan 22 at 1257 tuned in barely in time before *1258
CRI came back on, but no sign of Wantok Radio Light for the second day. Ron
Howard, San Francisco, California replies about yesterday`s non-log:

``Hi Glenn, Earlier on Jan 21 (0808-0830) was listening to WRL with a poor
signal, but certain was them on 7324.94. Jan 22 at 1406, just as you noted 24
hours earlier, WRL clearly off the air; no hint of a carrier. Gone again after
a brief come-back?`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH AFRICA. 11750, Jan 22 at 2046, fair S8 signal sounds sorta Swahilish,
but registered as Yoruba, AWR via Meyerton at 2030-2100, 250 kW, 328 degrees
also USward. Stands out in the absence of 11735 Zanzibar (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** TIBET [non]. 11512, Jan 22 at 1350, JBA carrier from presumed V. of Tibet,
TAJIKISTAN, and again no jammer carriers audible on 11510 or 11515, same still
at 1401, but at 1419 has shifted to 11517 and now there is an ineffective
jamcar on 11510.

As in Ivo`s schedules, I also check for 12+ MHz VOT channels: 12013, Jan 22 at
1351, JBA carrier vs RTTY always on 12015 which covers up a jammer, if any. By
1401, 12013 is off while 11512 is still on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1809 monitoring: not aired Thursday Jan 21 at 2100 on
WRMI 7570; instead, music fill from before the hour continued. Terry Elders at
the Okeechobee site explains, ``Yes Sir, It was off today, unfortunately we
have had some severe storms and some of our automation has been affected``. The
UT Fri 0200 WOR broadcast on WBCQ 9330v-CUSB was confirmed at 0225 check, only
poor signal this week. Also confirmed Friday Jan 22 at 2130 on WRMI 15770, but
a very weak signal; also Fri Jan 22, 2130.5 on WRMI 7570 with a good signal.
Next:
Sat 0730 HLR 7265-CUSB to SW
Sat 1530 HLR 7265-CUSB to SW
Sat 2030v WA0RCR 1860-AM ND?
Sun 0410v WA0RCR 1860-AM ND?
Sun 0900 WRMI 5850 to NW
Mon 0400v WBCQ 5110v-CUSB Area 51 to WSW
Mon 0430.6 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Tue 1200 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 1415.6 WRMI 9955 to SSE
Wed 2200 WBCQ 7490v to WSW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12105, Jan 21 at 2032, WTWW-3 is off. Jan 22 at 2040, it`s not off,
in Spanish Bibling (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 11550, Jan 22 at 1429 open carrier/dead air from WEWN Spanish. I
leave the aux FRG-7 receiver on this while listening to YEMEN [non] and KOSU.
Not until 1453:40 does papal palaver cut on 11550, while // 12050 has already
been relaying R. Vaticano since 1430, starting with ``Laudetur Iesus
Christus``.

Tsk2, 11550 a lot stronger here than 12050, with respective azimuths of 220 and
155 degrees, each nominally 250 kW per original B15 FCC schedule, which has not
been updated since posting dated 10 November, thus missing recent changes such
as adding 5015 for WRMI. When consulting via this link, change 01 to 02 in case
they ever modify it:
http://transition.fcc.gov/ib/sand/neg/hf_web/B15FCC01.TXT
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 830, Jan 21 at 1931 UT, WCCO Minneapolis MN is making it on daytime
skywave, but faded out a few minutes later at 1937 UT check. 720, WGN Chicago
is also heard at 1932 UT and still continues past 1937 UT. These are in the
1-megamter range. Nothing unusual at the hi end of band, altho at midband,
1040, WHO closer Des Moines IA is also making it with Rush atop the Metroplex
station SAH.

Which reminds me I haven`t deliberately logged 1040 KGGR Dallas under its
latest call change, daytimer 3300/PSRA 500/CH 2800 watts which has a remnant
signal here by groundwave (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, Jan 22 around 1340, R. Sana`a builds up to its usual
post-sunrise good signal level; is it really from Riyadh, Saudi

[HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs January 23, 2016

2016-01-22 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
** ALBANIA [and non]. 7465, Jan 23 at *0220, R. Tirana IS starts, only S6;
while Tirana`s ex-frequency, 7470, has only a JBA carrier from Kuwait. Tirana`s
ex-ex-frequency, 7425, has an S3 carrier from that Greenville leapfrog mixing
product 7305/7365 (so GB is still operational despite widespread blizzard power
outages in NC) (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6870-AM, Jan 23 at 0105, JBA carrier, less than the S7 noise level.
Presumably the semi-harmonic of 13740 RHC, but with the DX-398 tuned to a
better RHC frequency, 11670, I can`t make a // match as the 6870 signal is just
too weak. No luck at more chex the following hour. At 0122, 13740 reads S6-8,
poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEWFOUNDLAND. 2598-USB, Jan 23 at 0101, YL in English with weather, S8-S9.
Canadian CG site shows starting at 0048 is MCTS Placentia / VCP, with
``Radiotelephony --- Technical marine synopsis, forecasts and wave height
forecasts for marine areas 231, 232, 233, 234, 235, 236, 237 and 238. Weather
and Wave height forecasts for marine area 213``. In a few minutes at 0107 it
must cede the frequency to VOK Labrador via St Anthony.

2598-USB, Jan 23 at 0218 UT, barely audible broadcast mostly under line noise
level, 0219 I can tell it`s French, probably by YL. CG schedule shows it`s one
I haven`t logged before: ``MCTS Port aux Basques / VOJ - Broadcasts, 0207,
Stephenville site, 2598J3E, Radiotelephony (English followed by French).
Technical marine synopsis forecasts and wave height forecasts for marine areas
220, 221, 222 and 231. Weather forecast and wave height forecast for marine
areas 215, 217 and 219`` -- Stephenville is on the southwest side, south of
Corner Brook; Port aux Basques is at the SW corner, the ferry terminal from
Sydney NS, which is how I once got to Nfld without flying (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950.0-USB, Jan 23 at 0102, ``M-F`` song at tune-in, and I
don`t mean Medium Frequency or Monday-Friday. Then I log some other pirates,
and licensed pirate station WBCQ where Allan Weiner is urging pirates now to
use AM, NOT SSB (see WBCQ log for more); back to here at 0120 when blues plays,
0123 ``X-L-R-8`` ID and more music. 0157 check, this one is off. Many other
logs here:
http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,25899.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-AM, Jan 23 at 0103, JBA carrier, jumps around slightly;
At 0117 it`s on 6925.00-AM with music. At 0200, on 6925.07 variable with
announcement, unreadable. Maybe more than one station involved over this
period. These unID logs suggest Liquid Radio and Radio Gaga:
http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,25904.0.html
Channel Z was on frequency later before 0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6940-USB, Jan 23 at 0118, tune-in to someone saying he is
``firing things up, hope someone is hearing me`` despite ``crappy conditions``.
If so, post on HF Underground. It`s ``Doctor Benway, Undercover Radio,
broadcasting from the Middle of Nowhere``. Says he has a complete new setup;
does it sound OK? No way to patch in music right now, but will in very near
future. 0120 says he`s going to tune back up to XLR8, address
undercoverra...@gmail.com, and apparently off for the time being, so I also
tune up to 6950 for now.

6960-USB, Jan 23 at 0202, someone is glad to be heard tonight, and now with
music. Sounds like Benway again on a new frequency; 0206 something about ``A-OK
in the mid-Atlantic area`` (presumably referring to blizzard warnings). Now
he`s S7. Refers to heavy-metal songs; 0211 thanks for checking in to Skipmuck
(an HFU regular), John Poet, et al. (I would do so in real time, except for me,
DXing and Computing are mutually exclusive.) Full ID again as above and
address; then ``We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions``. At HF Underground, he
got two posts under 6940
http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,25905.0.html
and fifteen under 6960
http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,25906.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935.32-AM, Jan 23 at 0158, very poor S7 pirate signal with
music, announcement. Can`t make out anything further. No logs of this on HFU or
Free Radio Café (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SRI LANKA. 7530, Jan 23 at 0142, very poor S6 signal with a conversation;
0214 still there but JBA. HFCC shows IBB Iranawila, 250 kW, 334 degrees so also
USward, 01-04 in Pashto (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TAJIKISTAN [and non]. 7480, Jan 23 at 0143, weak talking vs a whine, bad
transmitter or jammed? Evidently the latter, as 01-02 on 7480 is IBB in Uighur
via Dushanbé, irking the ChiCom who think East Turkistan is theirs. At other
times we often hear different jamming here, stray Cuban-type pulsing (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7489.9-AM, UT Sat Jan 23 at 0103, WBCQ with

2016-01-22 Thread ilkka suni
Minulla on sellainen muistikuva, että joskus 80-
tai 90-luvulla olisi liikkunut väittämiä siitä,
jotta muovipäällysteinen lanka aiheuttaa
joissakin sääoloissa "staattista rätinää",
olikohan hankaussähköä räntäsateella...
Halkaistua killua ja jotain parin neliön
muovijöötiä ovat pihalankani aina olleet, enkä
suoraan sanoen muista, olenko havainnut eroa
noiden itsegeneratiivisessa häiriötasossa. Killu

Tuo romis toi "tukkuna" mm.
Ruotsista tavaraa, ja muistaakseni romis oli
vielä muutama vuosi sitten olemassa. Heh,
Matkahuollossa linjurikuski tuolloin ihmetteli
isoa kiiltelevää, suippoa kelaa, että mikä lempo
se on ja mihin sitä tarvitsen. Oli "hauska" käsin
talvipakkasessa kelata tuosta MIG-keloille 500, 600 ja 800 metrin pätkiä..

[DX] SAR- ja protonirevontulet

2016-01-22 Thread Ilkka Martikainen

FM Listin lokissa näkyy 3.11.2015 JJJ:n pohjoisesta kuulema SP P3 (Kiruna)
taajuudella 96,4 MHz klo 1411 UTC.
AuroraEs kohdalla. Aika ei tosin käy ihan kohdalleen, visuaaliset
SAR-revontulet on nähty esim. 3.11.2015 n. 1830-2000 SA (etupäässä
Keski-Suomessa).

[HCDX] Is KTIQ 1660 Merced CA really Anvictio?

2016-01-22 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
KTIQ 1660 in Merced CA is listed with the slogan ``Radio Anvictio``

Anvictio is a very strange word, not Spanish, maybe Latin? It exists on the
internet only in DX lists of X-band stations, for KTIQ. Also in the NRC AM Log.
Search engines suggest it might have meant Invicta, and so do I. Maybe
``Anvictio`` results from someone`s original misheard log? Streema.com calls it
``Al Centro De Avivamiento Amistad Cristiana``. Possibly it is a proper name or
a made-up word KTIQ applies to itself. If anyone can hear the station clearly,
or has a QSL in print, please enlighten us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
