It was an interesting station to listen to but always difficult to receive
in NAm. They clung to 9730 which always got hit by Switzerland 5 kHz up. I
think they only used a 50kW sender

[HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs November 27-28, 2019

2019-11-28 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
** ALGERIA. 576, Nov 28 at 0052 UT, JBA carrier among many in TA
search, but this is of special interest. 1 kHz tone test has been
widely reported last few nights in eastern half of North America as
very strong unID. Now I also detect a ``carrier`` on 575, i.e. the
lower half of a 1 kHz tone, but too much slop from WIBW on 577. My
previous comments about this:

Maybe Bechar, Algeria, 400/200 kW. Altho listed in WRTH, it hasn`t
been reported much (any?) despite the common 531 and 549 Algies, so
maybe this one is just being reactivated? Bechar is also where they
are supposedly building a new SW site.

mwlist says: ``576 ALG Chaîne 1 24h Kenadsa (Béchar) * 400 reported
irregularly active in Mar 2016 // 153 198 891 909 1071``

Europeans, if not North Americans, could easily get a DF bearing on
this, even triangulate it by simply using handheld portables --- too
easy? 73, (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 326 kHz, Nov 28 at 0718 UT, dash and YQK ID from ND beacon,
which is 200 watts from Kenora, Ontario.

335 kHz, Nov 28 at 0721 UT, dash and YLD ID from ND beacon, which is
1000 watts from Chapleau, Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENIING
DIGEST)

** CANADA. 2749-USB, Nov 27 at 0814 UT, marine weather by YL in
French, VP. Per EiBi at 0810-0830 it`s VCS Halifax but in English via
sm site = Sambro NS.

2598-USB, Nov 27 at 0816 UT, YL too weak to detect language. EiBi says
at 0807-0833 it`s VOJ, Port aux Basques NL, English & French via sv
site = Stephenville NL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 6030, follow-up Nov 27 from Harold Sellers about CFVP after
I asked him to check whether it`s off the air:

``[WOR] CFVP-6030 Calgary Canada off the air --- Recently listeners
had reported that CFVP seemed to be off the air. Normally I can hear
CFVP during daylight hours from my home in British Columbia, but I
wasn’t hearing it either. The mediumwave station, CKMX 1060, “Funny
1060”, has been audible here, so the problem was only with the
shortwave outlet.

Today I finally made contact with an engineer at BellMedia, who owns
the stations. This is what he said:

"I have just been informed the site was target of copper theft that
disabled CFVP. Transmitter underwent some repairs, and some work is in
progress on the site to restore the missing grounding. It should be
back in service within the next few days.”

Let’s keep listening for its return. Harold Sellers, Vernon, BC``

Tony VK2IC Magon replies, ``The best idea to replace the ground mat is
with barbed wire`` (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5040, Nov 28 at 0714, RHC English is still on here, only //
6145 which normally lasts until 0800. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Nov 27 at 2355, carrier clearly under Cuban wall of
noise jamming not against OCB, until cuts off at 2355:25.5* which is 2
seconds earlier than yesterday. Further obs will determine whether a
steady slippage or random variation in Radio Chaski timer`s
auto-termination. Nothing else is known to be on 5980 at this time
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 12030, Thu Nov 28 at 1557, REE earworm IS is VG, but VP on
// 11685; the eastern-hemisphere frequencies start at 1600 weekdays;
no signals yet on 9690 & 11940 western-hemisphere which don`t start
until 1900 weekdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** THAILAND. 9940, Nov 28 at 1301, HSK9, temporary(?) English segment,
I think but too poor to copy at S3-S5. I wanted to compare signal to
before 1300 as signal thisaway should have improved (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 2887-USB, Nov 27 at 0812, New York ATC poor assigning flite
level, selcal tones. Per EiBi this is a Caribbean area frequency, from
site at Barnegat, New Jersey (which is way down the coast between Toms
River and Tuckerton) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2009 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday November
27 from 2200:20 on WBCQ 7490.06, S9-S7, but 9330 is off.

Also confirmed UT Thursday Nov 28 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, better than
usual at S9+20 but fading down somewhat by 0120. Preceded by Zorba
tune at 0059, Biermann ID at 0059.5 and a fragment of some other
intrusive audio as WOR playback starts.

WOR 2010 should be ready by early UT Nov 29, and start SWairing late
UT Fri Nov 29 at 2300 on WRMI 9955; UT Sat Nov 30 at 0130 on WRMI
5010, 5850 and 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330.00, Nov 27 at 1853, World`s Last Chance via WBCQ-6
concluding German hour, only fair on caradio beamed away; piano IS
different than the usual, 1856 Arabic and off for swivel; *1859 back
on in Arabic seems slightly stronger, 1900 ``Huna WBCQ`` and
worldslastchance.com pronounced in English. Still in Arabic at next
check 2153, now S9+20/S6 the 500 kW much *weaker* now than 9350 WWCR
100 kW at S9+50. By 2157.5, 9330 reaches S9+25 in Arabic; 2200 WLC
theme music but cuts off the air by 2201* leaving splash from WWCR.
