[HCDX] RRI Merauke
3905.0 RRI Merauke, 1157 - 1208. Wasn't sure I wanted to get out of bed this morning to check on the Asians, but glad I did, as this one was clearest I've ever heard them. Pop music at tune-in, patriotic song at TOH, followed by female anncr with "Waktu Indonesia Barat" ["time"; I know Merauke is on Indonesian eastern time ("Waktu Indonesia Timur"), but this sounded like "barat," suggesting that the program was coming from Jakarta] and then "Warta Berita" (news). First news item was about the corruption scandal that has swept up former Brazilian President Lula. Fair to good; some ham QRM on the low side, but not really a problem. [HCDX] RRI Merauke
INDONESIA, 3905.0 kHz, RRI Merauke, 12:12 - 12:30, man and woman alternating in Indonesian. Just before 12:17, mention of 'Radio Republic Indonesia.' For rest of the time, brief musical pieces with talk between. Fair signal with some ham QRM, occasional strong het from a ham tuning up on the frequency; largely covered by ham QRM at 12:30. Best signal so far this year, despite (or because of?) the geomagnetic K-index having jumped a bit overnight. As semi-expected, this has reactivated again for Ramadan. Tuned in at 1122 to find steady non-stop open carrier with no audio detected; by 1210 audio fading up with the Jakarta news (clearly // 3324.88 RRI Palangkaraya // 4869.88 RRI Wamena); ending the news at 1223 with the usual patriotic song “Bagimu Negeri”; after 1224 no longer //; by 1231 found Merauke off the air; by 1238 again with just open carrier at decent strength, but no audio heard; off the air by 1305. Suggest that we check on this daily during Ramadan to hear what they are up to.
