Re: [Hardhats-members] Demo of Scheduling Functionality

2005-02-10 Thread A. Forrey
I would just like to amplify Chris' comments on the Scheduling
functionality. The key logical datat structures have been defined some
time ago in ASTM E-1384 "Structure and Content of the Electronic Health
Record" in the context of the Basic Care Scenario with the help of AHIMA
the key health record professional discipline; the VA implemnented its
module in that context but the role of scheduling in the context of
treatment plans is continuing to evolve and include Clinical Orders as
associated record data structures. Current VistA needs to be anlyzed in
that context and a statement of how the current implemented architecture
can develop an evolutionary trajectory to a configuration that serves both
VA and non-VA enterprises should be issued. I am currently looking at how
to describe these present VistA functions in the context of these EHR
standards for the introductory document on VistA for our Biomedical
Health Informatics educational program at UW. Such a description would
obvious benefit a wide audience if we had much broader general dialog
about both the conceptual framework and the use of the implementing
technology in describing these capabilities. I'd hope that Mike Ginsburg
would engage the various professional disciplines (including AHIMA at
their national association level) in open forums on several levels. I'd
also hope that the various VistA-interested organizations (including
the VA) would be induced into this open discussion on both Content and
Implementation-of-Content. Hopefully, those with more direct information
can respond with details.

According to this article, scheduling will be part of VistA Office and

being tested.

For the VAs VistA, there is documentation, some of which has been
recently
updated, at www.va.gov/vdl then look under Clinical and Scheduling.

Re: [Hardhats-members] Demo of Scheduling Functionality

2005-02-09 Thread Kevin Toppenberg
Luke,

Not to be a wet blanket here, but I wasn't impressed
with VistA's scheduling module. It text based (not
GUI). Also, most offices (I believe) combine
scheduling with their billing software. And VistA is
insufficient in that area as well. So our office has
chosen to use VistA as a medical record package, but
not as a practice management package.

Hope that helps.

For the VAs VistA, there is documentation, some of which has been recently
