Subject: Re: [H] mapped and external drive annoyances in XP PRO

I do net drives from Z backwards ala Novell days start my CD/DVD's at J
though I still manually map the externals to like Q R. C, D, E
internals with F G for thumbdrive.

When I started repairing and building computers in 1998 I started the
practice of assigning Drive R to the most often single CD Device. Later,
when a writer was added I assigned it to the Q Drive. This has served my
customers and I well over the years. To the best of my knowledge nobody has
had to move these devices further up in the alphabet. They now have room for
hard drives with 5 partitions, external hard drives and card readers etc. I
have seen very little (if anything) the manufacturers of name brand
computers do to furnish space on the hard drive (at least 2 partitions) to
copy data to so that it is not lost when Drive C is formatted. They leave
the CD/DVD devices immediately after other drives. If the customer adds a
drive, the CD/DVD devices get bumped upwards in the alphabet.

We technicians know that most customers have no clue as to what the 2nd
partition on a hard drive is for. It sure makes it easier for us to copy
their data over before we format their Drive C. My guess is we would not
even be having this thread if all computer manufacturers had simply used
common sense and built in convenience by partitioning the hard drive and
mapping all of the drives, leaving plenty of space between the non CD/DVD
devices drives and the other drive.

Will do 5.1, and will upcode stereo to 5.1 (not total comment on that,
though the separation to sub is handy) I believe it will capture 16:9.

Nero7 is what I'm using at the moment, so only thing I can comment on.

If one has the correct adapters drivers then Nero 6 will also do 16:9.

Why are people so against Winamp 5? I like it just fine.
