We just bought our first Mac today (a MacBook for my wife) and I'm
trying to figure out why it can't see shares from a WinXP machine on
the LAN. Could it be that they are ntfs?

Could be it's doing SMB signing. I found a machine policy hack through google

One more Mac question - I have the free HP Photosmart printer attached
to my XP machine and shared over the LAN. I figured out how to
connect to it with the MacBook but the printer model doesn't appear on
the list. Normally with a PC you can just pull the drivers off the
install CD. Can I do something similar for the MacBook?

Probably the best thing to do, is go to HP's site and look up your model
and then find the *universal* drivers for it...

[H] Open Office for OSX question

2007-01-13 Thread Brian Weeden

I am new to OO and just installed it on a MacBook today. I followed
the instructions to install X11 off the setup CD first. It seems that
OO runs just fine but I have a couple questions.

1) When it launches it opens a terminal window in addition to the OO
window. Is that normal?

2) How do I access the different apps in the suite? When I open OO it
defaults to the Write program.

Thanks. That just changes the key, not the product number. For example the
Not For Resale version is 007.
