So did you leave Peachtree behind because it was so different or
because it wasn't very good?

Brian, My mom is a retired CPA and she still does a little work on the side. I
remember her saying at a conference she went to, what a terror Quicken was/is.
She said most of the people like Quick Books, but not Quicken which is the
personal version of the software. Would Quick Books do what you need? There are
3 versions. Top version does all the rest and cost accounting, which if you
bill for your time comes in handy. The middle version can run most small to
medium businesses, and I don't remember about the lowest version what the
difference was.At one time, 4-5 years ago, we were having to use a file
converter someone wrote to get some of the Quick files we were using to be able
to be entered back in to the older software. Do not remember the name, but
found it in a Quickbooks discussion group after much Googling. Peach Tree
accounting makes a nice software package, there may be a converter for Quicken
in it, its some thing you might check out.Harvey> Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2007

Wayne,
Thank you for the tip. I tried it (very carefully). I did not fix my
problem. I am still loosing the rightmost 15-20% of text on
print. Printer is set for "fit to page." I must have some other glitch
going on. Will keep looking.

OK, I'm slow to comprehend. If you'd care to share that old dot-reg,
I'll give it a whirl.
No, I'm not moving to XP or Vista just for this "fix." XP maybe for
other reasons.

Vista, Hmm.. ;)

[H] OT Time to rant about finance programs

2007-03-10 Thread Brian Weeden

So I figured I would finally get off my butt and starting tracking my
spending, investments, all that good stuff. I originally started with
MS Money which seemed ok, but then realized that my bank only works
with Quicken. So I purchased Quicken 2007, installed it, spend a day
inputting all my data and accounts, then set it up for auto updates.

About 2 weeks ago it stopped autoupdating. Looking at the log file,
it said the stored passwords to access the accounts were invalid. I
checked the passwords and made sure they worked just fine. I then
manually told it to update.

First problem. Every single damn time I tell it to do an online
update of my accounts it tells me I must register to do that feature.
WTF I already paid for the damn thing, I don't want them to have
all my data. So I make up a bunch of false info and register the damn
thing.

Now it connects and we find the second problem. It tells me it can't
download anything from my accounts because it has run out of memory.
Which is really funny since I have 2 GB on this machine and Quicken,
while it is a memory hog, has only used 50MB of the 1.4 I have
available.

No amount of uninstalling/reinstalling will fix the problem. Some
googling has turned up lots of posts from other users with he same
problem dating all the way back to September and lots of
recommendations to ditch the damn thing.

So I pulled out a copy of Quicken 2006 that someone had given me and
installed it. Of course, it couldn't use my 2007 files so I had to
input all my data again. Now 2006 will sync just fine, except for the
third problem - it will only grab the last 30 days of transactions. I
try to download the previous year's worth but it tells me that I
cannot import .QIF files anymore and I have no way to import that data
except typing it all in by hand. WTF??

That's it, I've had it. Talk about your ultimate #*$#% piece of #$&^&
lame-ass #*&*& company.

So I guess my question to the group is what do you guys use?
