Re: [H] Ubuntu issues with USB key

2007-07-05 Thread Brian Weeden

Figured out the problem. Turns out I recently installed Automatix and
one of the "features" is that it will automount drives and partitions
for you. My USB key was attached when it was enabled and so it wrote
a line in my /etc/fstab file to automount the key on boot.

Well, with the key not present it couldn't execute that command. As
soon as I insert the key it tried to execute the command from fstab
only now it was executing it in the user space instead of as root and
thus it failed.

Still don't know why stupid windows won't read the usb drive but every
other machine (OSX, windows, linux) does.

Okay, the plot thickens. It turns out that the keys can be read on
every windows system EXCEPT mine. Which makes it a WinXP problem and
not a Linux one.

Anyone know why XPSP2 would detect and map a usb key but claim it is
unformatted?

The issue with mounting in Ubuntu is probably related to the drive it
is getting mapped to It was working a while ago and now isn't. Maybe
somehow the folder the drive is getting mapped to got set to root
permissions. Dunno. But the whole root permissions thing (especially
with trying to run programs at startup) is a real pain.

[H] Any Ubuntu people using Alltray?

2007-07-05 Thread Brian Weeden

I heard about it and installed it but I can't seem to get it to do
what I want - which is launch a couple of programs at boot running in
the tray. I can put these apps in the run at startup menu but they
load as normal windows whereas I want them to run in the tray.

Any ideas?

Acrobat Reader 4 or 5 which still works for most PDFs is only about 2

Yes, suggested this. Who did you email? A person, or, a generic
object at game developer website?
Thank you.

Yep. Fox-it wasn't compatible with the website I used to do my tax

Dump the Nov+updates, there is a May core release &
June update that
supersedes them.

Now if I could just finish this custom XP SP2 +
Autopatcher +
DriverPacks + tweaks (was using nLite) + WPI w/ my
usual software
installs (whew!) DVD nightmare I started creating in
June...

All it takes a bad driver/inf to disable WPA support.
Are you showing
WPA as a option in WZC for the wifi?

Uh, My Computer->Manage->Drive Management?

There is also command line "DiskPart.exe" in system32
folder.

Re: [H]Scanning Photos

2007-07-05 Thread Steve Tomporowski

I'll have to see if I have a descreen option. I actually solved most
of the problem by turning off the color correction and using an
adjustment to the blue to correct the color. Also used the 'grain
correction'.

On 7/4/07, Rick Glazier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

This is a function of your Software (and Twain driver).

I use Paperport 6 and/or 7, and in the advanced settings
(I hit that button on the actual "preview screen" window)
I look for a selection -- "descreen".
Works for me.
It also makes half-tone B&W newspaper photos scan
correctly since they also have a repetitive pattern...

format it as FAT32 later.
