[H] Thanks for the info
Thanks to the many List members that replied to the threads: re: [H] XP Pro asks for password when mapping drive re: [H] IP Stuff I have managed to avoid a re-install of WinXPpro on my test machine. I was going to blow away the c:\ hd and start all over last night, but I decided to just make a list of needed stuff and sleep on the problem once again. The reinstall was planned to try and fix the XP machine's inability to allow my other w2k LAN clients access to its' shares without the uname/pw popup window. I suspected a dorked install/access problem. It was an access/credential problem. I fixed it this morning by creating a temporary Uname/PW account (Jack Black) with admin rights. This allowed me to kill my old user account. Once I recreated my user account with proper credentials, all the shares of the XP machine became freely visible on the LAN to all my other clients w/o the login popup window. Problem solved! Thanks for all the discussion and ideas. Much happier with WinXP now. Best, Duncan This email scanned for Viruses and Spam by ZCloud.net

I have had to do this on numerous occasions due to XP's ( or my ) ineptitude. :-o Creating a new user sometimes is almost like doing a clean install.
