Hmm, MS's download page gives this as the System requirements for SP3,
System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP Home Edition ; Windows XP Professional
Edition ; Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2

They say it should work with XP, XP SP1, and XP SP2...

Hello,

Is there a XP SP3 version out there that does NOT require at least SP1
to already be installed? If so, what is it and where is it?

There ya go, see I have gotten to the point of telling these sites - I
ain't gonna use IE. Example: Wife shops at Gap.com or Oldnavy.com
If it doesn't work with Opera or at least Safari we don't buy there
until it does. So I tell her to call them up tell them what browsers
we use and that we will not use IE and if they want our business and
others who do not want to use IE - they better get with the program.

You'd be surprised, but in a day or two whatever was glitched works.

Simple, it's not IE or Firefox. I would say the security is about the
same as Firefox; Opera possibly even better, maybe, IMO.

If you haven't checked it out... you really should.

If it doesn't have Greasemoney, it isn't worth using. :)

FWIW I was having fits in FF logging onto Bank of America, every 3 log ons or
so I had to delete their cookies until I made the following tweak in
about:config

                Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
                Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
                Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to 10

so far ( 3 days) no problems. YMMV. These are supposed to make FF faster, not
sure about that but has so far helped log ons at BofA
