inferred that the whole reason that they were offering a non-shipment
version and online updates was that rtm would get to us right away.

I should have been more specific - availability on Connect for TAP
members.
I suspect that availability on MSDN and TechNet will be sooner than
Microsoft has publicly stated, but you never know. They still haven't

found a old copy of mine of adobe I forgot about and installed adobe distiller, 
for now all is well.

I think either CutePDF or Foxit will install a PDF printer for your system,
which means you can then print from any program to a PDF file instead of a
hardware printer.
