Re: [H] New Ryzen PC Build

2017-04-19 Thread Jason Chue
I don't think the stock coolers will cut it for me. At least at overclocked
speeds and ambient temps of 26 to 30 degree C all year around. Looking at
AIO closed loop water cooling but the manufacturers are slow to come out
with proper brackets for the Ryzen.

On the motherboard side its also not very cheery. Heard a few people with
bugs and stories of manufacturers not fast enough with their updated bios
support.

Nice. I assume that's the stock cooler that came with the 1700? What cooler
will you be using for your overclock? I've been meaning to go the Ryzen
route and the cooler plus motherboard is the only thing pulling me back. My
current system is just too old and overdue for a complete upgrade.

[H] 5TB hard disk

Hey guys,

Thinking very hard about pulling the trigger on the Toshiba Canvio 5TB
external drives. Has anybody heard and used them?

The only 5TB drives that Toshiba list belongs to their enterprise line up.
7200rpm, 5 platter design and 128MB cache.

Re: [H] e-Sata card, multiple multi-drive enclosures

2013-02-18 Thread Jason Chue
I'm using a RocketRAID 622 card that came with my eSATA 4 bay
enclosure. Are you using the same one?

I tried both ports and it works. However, I have not had the chance to
try BOTH ports simultaneously as I only have one 4 bay unit. Like you,
I actually thought of getting another enclosure but chanced on another
HP N36L unit to house another 4 drives.

On a side note, the RAID card is a x1 PCIe 2.0 which means 500MB/s
transfer rates. While it's enough bandwidth for one 4 bay enclosure,
perhaps it would be limiting if you want to make two 4 bay enclosures
simultaneously sharing the bandwidth.

Thanks for the reply Al. The 641 is really long. Nice card but don't know if
XP is supported... Also, don't think it'll fit in my casing. Something like
the LSI would work fine. Except I see that it is a single channel card. I
read that mixing the external Ultrium tape drive which runs at Ultra 2
speeds on the same channel as the RAID array is a no no.

Anyway, if you thought I was asking about PCI-X and PCI compatibility, I was
not. I know that PCI-X cards work in PCI slots so long as the PCI slot is
keyed for 3.3V.

What I was asking is if a 3 x 10k.7 RAID 0 array would saturate the normal
PCI bus and if indeed it does, would I be better off to use a U160 RAID card
which is very much cheaper...

[H] SCSI U320 RAID

2008-03-20 Thread Jason Chue
It's been a while since I played with SCSI. Moreso in the age where SAS and
SATA is the buzzword, it was odd that I landed myself with 3 units of 300GB
10k.7 Cheetah hardrives. Thought I plunge into the world of SCSI again and
give it a try. Here are my questions;

1. What's a good RAID card that does 0, 1, 5? Preferably dual channel since
I also got an external Ultrium tape drive and has drivers for XP .

2. Should I go U320 RAID cards since the drives are U320 or U160 RAID cards
since they are much cheaper to get?

3. Most good cards are in PCI-X flavour. Would I see a performance dump if I
set RAID 0 with those 3 drives if I put the PCI-X card in a normal PCI
2.2slot? I believe the PCI slot in my mobo (P5K-E running Q6600 at
3.6GHz) is capable of 533MB/s.

Appreciated if I can get any thoughts and feedback. Thanks.
