[H] CPU Upgrade

2006-01-11 Thread AMDSpeed
Does Windows XP Pro SP2 need to be reinstalled when going from a single core
Athlon 64 to an X2 processor? How about from a non-HT Pentium 4 to a Hyper
Threaded one? Or will the OS just recognize it? Just wondering about future
upgrade paths. Thanks.

No, and in fact you don't need to format after most upgrades
anymore...just do a "repair" install. I did it a couple of weeks ago
after installing a new mobo and PSU and have been running smoothly ever
since.

The only time you would need to do that is if you went with a 64bit
version of Windows Xp
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/default.mspx or 2k3
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/64bit/default.mspx
