[H] DVI to HDMI problems

2006-03-26 Thread Brian Weeden
We have a Mitsubishi WD52725 RP DLP TV. It has connectors for both
VGA and HDMI on the back. I originally had my HTPC hooked up via the
VGA connector, and using Powerstrip was outputting a perfect 720p
signal with very little overscan.

I figured I would try and use the HDMI input. So I got a HDMI cable
and a DVI to HDMI plug as the video card outputs DVI. Hooked
everything up and no picture. Hooked up a settop DVD player using the
same HDMI port and it worked fine. I looked into the manual and in
fine print on one of the pages it says that the HDMI is not to be use
for connecting a PC.

First off, how can the TV know if I am hooking up a PC or DVD player
or whatever to it? Secondly, what could it be doing to block the PC
signal? The only thing I can guess is that the TV is looking for only
signals that are Macrovisiion/CSS protected over the HDMI and thus
will only display those.

Thoughts?

Won't the signal characteristics of PC video and setup DVD player video
be different? PC generally run at higher res, don't they? Just some
thoughts

You hit the nail on the head can find out more at http://www.avsforum.com/

Even MyHD 120 card says to hook up the DVI only to another DVI this
was discussed in one of their subtopics @ avsforum.
