Not a helpful answer.  Installing and using mozilla does not prevent 
Internet Explorer from doing this occasionally when you run internet 
explorer.

for Internet Explorer Updates?


If you look at my mail client you'll see I run in linux, so Firefox 
actually is my browser of choice, but I do occasionally need to check 
websites using internet explorer in a VM, or from a spare windows machine.


The checkbox did the trick!

That's why I used the smiley.  And I agree with you, that auto check 
in IE is irritating.

seems like under internet options, advanced is a tab to check for ie updates, 
unchecking that should work.
