Make sure when it is delivered that they have 2 people carrying it. Had a
customer of ours accept a delivery of a PC we sold them for their meeting
room (instead of a projector) and the UPS guy carried it in on his own and
damaged the TV.

The second TV we had delivered we took a $30 white glove option. Had 2
guys in a truck come. They carried it where it was going, unboxed it,
allowed him to inspect it and they removed all the packing materials.

Definately worth it on a $1500 purchase.

Dude...

Good deal! I specifically when after the 67-inch because I have a big
room and sit a good ways from the TV...
but this set rocks...i've been using my for HD broadcasts and blu-ray
via HDMIjust totally off-the-wall lovely. I was coming at this from
a Sony 53 inch XBR and this tv just blows it clean out of the water. I
wasn't really planning to buy a TV but like you, mine when out unexpectedly.

I got cheap HDMI cables that do a really good job too for only $4/cable
at monoprice.com. I also got a new Onkyo receiver that lets me output
all sources over HDMI...

With Blu-ray you get movies at 1080p/24 with lossless audio...both are
simply spectacular. The jump from what I had to this for what I paid is
totally amazing...I bought my Sony XBR some 9 years ago and dropped what
I thought was huge coin...I was too happy to get one of these at way
less than what I paid them. Honestly, I can't get enough of watching
this TV with Blu-ray.

I wish I had gotten one of the newer BD players that have wireless built
in. Some even let you download movies from netflix and music from
pandora over a wireless connection...

I'd discounted plasma, but then reading enough stuff online and on avsforum
specifically was interested in the Pioneer Kuro Plasma line (and Elites
specifically); but then they stopped making them and might even be going out
of business so I reluctantly am not looking at them (the new Panasonic Elite

Front projectors are cool but wasn't sure it would work with my light issues
due to huge windows.

So then I read some more reviews and most people were discounting LCDs due
to lack of adequate performance on fast motion and overbrightness

So that left the DLPs. And then Samsung came out with the LED DLPs that got
rave reviews last year and the bulbs weren't supposed to need
replacing...reviews are pretty good as per the links already sent and prices
are even coming down. I looked at the 61 and 67 at Best Buy and they were
like $1900 and $2500 respectively...

I got lucky and got a floor model of the 61 for $950 and only $200 for the
4yr plan (which is what got me the price that low) and a Samsung floor model
stand for the tv $90...so great deal all-around, though prices for it on
Amazon have come down A LOT (it's $1450 now, though I saw it at $1200 a few
weeks ago), and their white-glove delivery is supposed to rock. I got the
61 b/c it was going to cost me like $1900 for floor model 67 and I was
like 2x for 6 more?! Nah!

And I have to say the picture is pretty amazing, and it's HUUGE when you get
it home; much bigger than it seems in the store! Been watching only with
component and HD looks pretty amazing (though it depends on your source;
crap in=crap out); still need to get HDMI cables and try those and test with
a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player, which should look even better!

And final note about the TV; it doesn't have a reflective screen; it's
matte, so it is AWESOME; my previous tv had tons of reflection issues with
our big windows that face to the west (tv faces north) and we had to close
the blinds all the time; now we can open them and you can hardly even tell
it's open and it's totally watchable and you can hardly even tell! It's
really possibly the best feature of the tv for me; something I didn't even
realize!

Ok, that's my quick thoughts for now; I definitely can recommend the TV; if
you see a floor model of the 61 at a Best Buy you should be able to talk
them down to the price I got, and for $1k for a 61 screen that looks great
in HD...you can't beat that! GL!

Re: [H] New TV.

2009-03-17 Thread Bino Gopal
Problem with that is Samsung came out with the LED DLPs last year but didn't
release new models this year...why is that? Most speculate that it's b/c
they're no longer going to make them.

Almost everyone is switching to LCD b/c it's MUCH cheaper to make (it's why
Pioneer had to get out of plasma) even if it's not quite as good
yet...Mitsubishi had the Laserviews but those weren't put into real
production and had TONS of issues, so I've heard they're dead.

So get the LED DLPs while they're still available b/c I think DLPs are going
away and we'll be left with a few plasmas and mostly all LCDs to pick from!
FWIW.

part is the viewing angle, we've had as many as 12 people spread out over

heat like you wouldn't believe, you can feel heat radiating from the screen

I agree about the Samsung as a brand. We have 50 plasma really like it.
Excellent quality and the viewing area is far greater than LCD.

It's a nice enough set. Most debate in the LCD HDTV community is between
Sony and Samsung. It's a little above your price range, but I think it's
hard to beat the Samsung LN52A750. I did very extensive research before
buying that exact model; upon seeing it, a colleague bought one as well.

I've had it since September, and I STILL find myself in awe of its PQ.

Yepand it's just like the old monitors in that case.the TV people
would have advised him regarding that. You can bet it took a long time to do
that and leaving the image on the TV for many hours at a time. It's like if
you leave channels like Sc-Fi or USA that have their logos on most of the
time and run the TV 24 hours a day, it will burn in over a period of
timesame with running X-Box, or other games, with the same game for days
at a time.

yeah that's a problem, don't play games on a plasma for more than 30 - 45
minutes. Any static image such as a HUD will leave a ghost. I have a
Pioneer 50 plasma, bought it maybe 7 years ago and it still rocks. Good
part is the viewing angle, we've had as many as 12 people spread out over
our couch watching the thing. Bad is the glare or reflection especially
during the day. Also it is certainly not eco-friendly, the thing throws off
heat like you wouldn't believe, you can feel heat radiating from the screen
up to 6 away. But a little LC and a plasma will last a long time. Get one
of the specialized settings adjustments DVDs since they tend to be set hot'
from the factory, too much color saturation which will prematurely wash out
the image.

Mine's on that CNet 'best of' list. :)

Samsung PN50A550 50-inch plasma TV, and I recommend it highly.

Love it, and have never seen any burn-in on mine, and I use it for
Xbox and TV, including sports with the score thingies on the screen
for a long time. The new generations seem much better at avoiding
that stuff. Mine has a pixel shift mode that helps, as well an all
white screen you can use if you see any burn-in.

Ours has a white setting to almost eliminate burnin. They give you lots of
ways to get around it. Decent manual and online help. You can get a 1080p
for 11-1200 bucks, or a 720p, which we have, in the 7-800 bracket. A little
shopping and maybe you can trim some off of that and sell the wife on it.
They have HDMI, DVI, composite, coax, and optical inputs, and some other
stuff. We have Dish Network and a VIP722 DVR HiDef tuner, Phillips DVD, and
a digital Yamaha sound system which all couple up very well. I'm trying to
figure out how to set up a wireless connection from my PC and wife's laptop
without spending an arm and a leg.
