[H] Replacement UPS battery

2009-08-16 Thread Scott Sipe
Need to get a couple new batteries for several models of APC and
CyberPower UPSes. Any collective opinion on whether to go straight
through the manufacturer or 3rd party? 3rd party seems a lot cheaper...

I've used 3rd party batteries on a bunch of APC backUPS for over 3 years now
with no problems what so ever.

Me too... Years ago I got some from Batteries.com, but for the cheaper units
I wait for GoodFriday sales, etc., and just get the whole unit new...

Scott,
I've used APC ups's since ~1999. I have never yet bought an APC
replacement battery. APC is just too proud of their decals and packaging.

I have used the PowerSonic PS-12120F2
and the
Yuasa Genesis NP12-12 AGM

I recc. the Yuasa Genesis NP12-12 AGM. It out-lasts the PowerSonic
equivalent.

Be aware that if you choose to price-shop these batteries, you may end
up with "old shelf stock" (read: clearance!) Even though what you get
may be "new" they may be very old. And, they may not have the life you
planned on.

All of my replacement PowerSonic batts failed within 2-3yrs of 24/7
usage. Perhaps this is what I need to plan for. (?)
Odd. The old replacement Yuasa Genesis NP12-12 AGM pair is still online
24/7 and working fine! Yes, I do notice that the Yuasa website does not
list this battery readily any more. Perhaps they have now backed out of
the UPS market. (?)

Best,
Duncan
