There are several ads this weekend for 1 GB thumb drives for about $20-$25. A gig of system memory is about $100. Seems like a large difference. Reasons? Inquiring minds want to know. The reason I was looking at thumb memory is my college freshman daughter thinks one would be useful. At 06:42 PM 9/24/2006, you wrote: How come there is such a disparity in the price of system memory and thumb drive type memory? speed and the ability to use it over and over again. System RAM is a LOT faster then a USB drive by a factor or what... 10 ... 100? A thumb drive has a limited re-use. Nothing that would effect normal use, but it couldn't handle the sustain read writes of system memory. There are several ads this weekend for 1 GB thumb drives for about $20-$25. Their choice is the 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Titanium which they show at $120 Runner up is a OCZ Rally2 4GB for $130 The reason I was looking at thumb memory is my college freshman daughter thinks one would be useful. personally like Lexar, for no particular reason other then I have not had one go bad on me like some others ( forget brand ) Use MS Synctoy to keep backup copy of thumb on hard drive just in case. 8-) fp At 06:42 PM 9/24/2006, James Maki Poked the stick with: >How come there is such a disparity in the price of system memory and thumb >drive type memory?
