Found it. There is another key: HKCU\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon That had a string value shell set to cmd.exe. Removed it and I'm back. Thanks! T

[H] Windows 7 - explorer won't load at boot
I've got a Windows 7 machine which boots to a blank screen, but I can bring up task manager and run explorer and then the desktop appears. Checking the \HKLM\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current VersionWinlogon, Explorer is set as the shell. Any ideas? T
