FWIW I got auto shutdown to work by enabling APM in windows, I knew there was a 
way with older MB's and w2k

ACPI is enabled with the "computer" in the device manager. If it is not 
present, it can never be enabled unless you reinstall windows. You can 
change a uni/multiprocessor ACPI PC to a "standard computer" but not the 
vice versa.
