I found time to do a quick test today...
Yes a 1.2 Mb Floppy drive is correctly recognised via a USB/Floppy
interface. I didn't get chance to actually test a disk read/write, but
it showed up as a 1.2Mb floppy.
YMMV.

Certainly not commercially. I've never seen one.

Hacking the wiring is quite easy. A five minute job !
Whether or not the USB interface recognises the drive as a
1.2Mb/360K/180K/120K/100K would have to be tested.

If anyone has their heart and mind set on using their 5.25" floppy
drive and does not have a serial port available they can try a
Serial/USB converter.

Monoprice.com has Serial/USB converters for $5.54.
Maybe (???) you'll succeed in hooking a 5.25" floppy to a USB port???

Here's the link to monoprice:

I have a sealed box of new 5.25 disks... (Somewhere close by.)
And a Dell combo drive, 3 1/2 + 5 1/4 in.

I gave a couple 5 1/4 (single) drives to a tech at Microcenter.
He was all excited to get them...
One would ONLY do the "really older" lower density disks too...

I just sold quantity 5 3.5" floppy drives on Ebay for $.50 plus
shipping. Not really worth it but at least someone will get some use out
of them and I don't have to suffer guilt throwing them into the land
fill or letting them clutter up the place. I got my 1st PC in 1994 with
a floppy drive and had my last PC with a floppy in 2010. Now what do I
do with those disks that I have? LOL

Shocked how well they do business.
I'll probably toss them in ~15yrs!
Long live our LIST!
TNX.

I now have so much more stuff for my Big Red Trash Bin. LOL!
(some drives, some disks, and, lots of cables!)
It will be a really good Spring!
Thank you,
Duncan

Anthony,
Yes, I saw this model and another model from Nippon Labs. Problem is
that both of these still require the eide FD cable. Not completely usb.

I am considering the Iomega Silver model, N82E16821108201, $34.99.
I'd like NOT to try Sabrent or Rosewill again!

Yes, I do. I'd like to believe that there is really nothing I might

USB floppy drive? Do tell :)
Think that is what I now seek!!!
LOL!

Why not a USB floppy drive?

OK. I understand.

Is there any kind of external conversion box (eide-usb) I can
use to
keep a NEW "working" Sony/TEAC 3.5in floppy drive around for
some time.

Yes, I do so know that I should have converted all my old
floppies to

usb sticks years ago. Fine. I'm late with this, also! Sue me!
It seems that I am finding out what the life of Sony/TEAC floppy
drives useful life may be. All mine are 12-15 (or more!) yrs old!
Wondering?
